I know that Spybot finds and removes viruses during a scan, but does the real-time protection detect viruses as well? Windows only reports that my spyware protection is working, and says I have no virus protection. I am assuming this is just a flaw with Windows, but I would like to know for sure.

The application searches for spyware, malware, adware, trojans, hijackers and keyloggers.
