Has anyone tried to manually remove the Trojan? This came up in a search on this forum but since it was posted in 2008 I'm not ready to jump through the hoops it explains.

My client has Windows 10, Spybot +AV 2.5 running on a brand new Lenovo desktop and still managed to get this trojan.

Another system has Windows 7 with the same Spybot + AV 2.5 and he managed to get the cryptowall virus.

Still having issues with trying to run Windows Defender and Spyboy concurrently.

The topic to which you'd posted was about Spybot freezing on a definition, not that the malware was on the computers, so I split your post off to a new topic.

The computers are not your personal machines? CryptoWall is a file-encrypting ransomware and we can discuss that issue after I receive your response to my post. :)

Spybot +AV and Defender on both computers? FYI: Rule of thumb is one anti virus program resident to avoid conflicts, loss of program efficiency and system lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same files at the same time.

I have a similar problem. I have Windows 10 (fully updated) Spybot 2.5 (also fully updated) and every time I run a scan it ends on the Zlob.zipcodec file. Spybot just keeps running and running. I can't open "Settings" if I run "Report creator" Spybot crashes or hangs. Startup Tools also doesn't work. I have tried removing and installing Spybot again, still the same.

I have raised a ticket and sent tons of emails with screen shots of the faults, I have tried all the things suggested nothing worked, but now no one is even acknowledging my emails any more. It has been a week and a half since anyone from Spybot replied to me and I am disappointed, I would have thought that someone would at least tell me they are working on it, but nope, Nada.

Progress bar nearly 100%
Won't proceed any further - have waited as long as 48 hours.
Also unable to open Settings.
Uninstalled and re-installed Spybot - same problem.
Win 10 x64
Problem started a couple weeks ago.
"Stop scan" is recognized (button grays out) but scan never stops - have to kill Spybot in task manager.

Having exactly the same problem as a LOT of others seem to be...

Windows 10, Spybot 2.5.42.0 (uninstalled and re-installed) to no effect.

Would be nice to see some responses from admin other than they can't replicate the problem - 'cos it seems there's a lot of us that can ;)

OK!

We ended up wiping the system with the Cryptowall - it is a nasty one, and having Spybot didn't catch it, though I suspect my client was not letting his updates run.

Yes I was trying to follow our brainiac computer guys instructions on what to use but he didn't realize I had the AV version of Spybot.

So bottom line on the Trojan is that it too got past Spybot and we are experiencing the same behavior as described by the others here. This particular system is a brand new Lenovo running Win10 and the very first thing I did was move her Spybot license to the new machine, created a white list and installed Office and QuickBooks. She does surf the net a bit so once I either get a solution through my trouble ticket or reinstall her OS to wipe it clean, I am going to set up her old system to surf on, it's just not safe out there even with Spybot working hard to try and protect us.

I got a quick response to my ticket but haven't heard back on my responses for 2 days now. I think we just need to know you hear us - especially considering Spybot seems to be the only thing affected by this latest version of zipcodec.

Thanks everyone.

Its unclear to me if my machine is infected with Zipcodec - whatever that is. I don't think so as there are no issues I can see - other than Spybot does not finish the scan - ever. (as many have reported). Is there some way to tell if I have Zipcodec on my computer? I have looked and searched the suggested files, but nothing on my computer seems to show Zipcodec. I would imagine all others are in the same boat - nothing showing Zipcodec on their systems either.

Yes, no info from SB is very concerning - can't imagine why there is NO response. Perhaps they are all on vacation? (for the next months)

i am also running an upgraded windows 10 64bit. windows defender runs a clean scan but i have had viruses and malware before that were not caught by defender so i researched spybot and downloaded it. it has fully updated and i have run it with no results, my first scan ran to 98% after 4 hours of waiting with no other progress i closed it and reran the scan and left it for the night, at 5 am it said 100% but nothing else. closed rebooted the system and tried again and left for a few hours with it running, when i returned again it sat at 100% but never told me anything more just sat. i then looked up the issue and did some of the suggested things like disabling cookies and turning off my defender and shutting down all my windows and running processes and tried to run another scan, again i have made it to 100% but have been sitting at 100% for over an hour. other than finding another malware program that will complete the scan im at a loss and as i have read this seems to be an issue for a lot of people and no one seems to be answering how to fix the issue. any suggestions to getting the program to complete the process would be appreciated

Not sure how useful it is to pile on, but I've come to this forum for the very same issue. Discouraging to hear that there is no apparent understanding of the problem, let alone a solution.

... that, 1 week later (from my thread) and longer, for others, there's no reply from anyone in authority here.

I've always been a big fan of Spybot, but this lack of response on their official forum is very off-putting :(

As posted by others, my SpyBot scans are ending and freezing at Zlob.ZipCodec. Additionally, I noted that each time it freezes it is apparently on "4E2AFAC", which cannot locate anywhere on my machine when I search for it.

At another site, the "solution" suggested was to disable SpyBot until they find and inform us of a solution.

Until ?

IF, seems more likely at the moment, given the overwhelming silence from them :(

Dear Costello99, Dear Spybot Team,:oreo:
I have the same problem: Win10, Spybot 2.5 + AV pro (both fully updated), it first occurred on the 8th of February 2016. Before that, I never had a problem with Spybot! Now, the Settings won't open either, Report creator crashes and Start Up Tools crashes. I removed and reinstalled ALL, even the hidden Spybot files, lost my licence key in the process, got it sent to me again by a helpful spybot sales team, have everything re-installed and running - all the problems are still there!!!! Even on a repair environment scan - all problems show as above! :lip:
...I really hope there's someone out there at spybot who can help!
love and greetings, ch

Tried stopping all unnecessary services and killing all unnecessary processes to no avail.
Also tried safe booting - also to no avail.
It would sure be great to get some official word on this.
Is there someplace else other than this thread that might elicit an official response?
Really like Spybot but about ready to remove it altogether and forget about it.

I am still having the problem of the scan getting hung up on zlobzipcodec for many months now. Now I can't access the settings either, when you try to access settings the UAC pops up, you select YES, then nothing happens. I have been using various versions of spybot for years and never had this issue. Why doesn't the programmers or the spybot team at least acknowledge there is a problem and many people are having it. At least they could say they are working on it.

Here too, and only just recently, like in the past day or two, System Scan gets to 100% scanning for Malware, and then unlike past performance, System Scan spends an enormous amount of time on "Zlob.Zcodec downloaded files..." I notice too that, at least in my specific case, while spending this enormous amount of time on this particular "product," that at some point System Scan gets to: C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Cache\f_00009c, whereupon System Scan seems to loop, or halt, or can't scan the specified file(s), folder, or directory. The green progress bar continues to run endlessly left to right as it normally does, but no progress is made from this point on by System Scan. And because System Scan halts or hangs-up where and how it does, it never does get to perform the Virus Scan that follows the Malware Scan.

This problem is new. I am using and have had Windows 10, 64-bit ever since it was first released and have not had this most recent System Scan problem.

ONE MONTH on from my post - and longer for others - and not a single post from the developers ??

W_T_F is going on ? - don't they care or don't they read their own forums ?

Whichever one it is, it's pretty bloody disgusting ...

I've been having the exact same problem for months - haven't been able to complete a single scan. Do we know if it's a spybot bug, or if it's related to some sort of trojan or malware?

@DaveCInOz: developers usually are not here, but our supports might have shown more presence, agreed :)

Were weren't unbusy... I've described here (https://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?72828-Full-Scan-Doesn-t-End&p=469413&viewfull=1#post469413) what took place meanwhile. Gathering information via email was simply more effective.

@ntesla: It's IE cache related (which I agree doesn't speak out what exactly corrupted the cache yet), and the linked post includes two things to try out; meanwhile we're preparing a quick workaround tool that I'll add there as well.

I have the same problem with scan also. It says 100% complete but hung up on zlob.zipcodec. I have windows 10 and 64 bit. I liked using this scan and was going to buy it but now that it does not work, what is the point now. If it cant be fixed, let us know so i can uninstall it. As now it is worthless. I see many people are having the same problem and it has been going on for months. Let the users know something, so they can chose to do what needs to be done.
