Spybot Takes 3 Hours

since having IE7 and using tuneup utilities 2007 for total registry clean (amongst other clean ups on TuneUp),i find that SPYBOT 1.4 still works BUT it takes 3 hours to watch the green bar go across .......Its driving me nuts therefore after all these years and endless re-downloads of both versions 1.3 and 1.4 i have had to delete Spybot altogether
Please please i want to use SPYBOT but it isnt working and as ive said i have now taken it OFF my pc but i want it back:red:

I'm sure if we're patient, they will. Or AVG will. Or they both will. In the meantime, most of us can work around the problem by switching off our antivrus real-time protection when we do a Spybot scan.

Will you tell us (preferably in the other thread) which antivirus software you're using?
 
Try Disabling Your Anti Virus When Scanning

It seems that this affects different people in different ways but the most common factor would seem to be SpyBot maybe having some sort of conflict with anti virus programs. I had AVG on this computer but never opened or installed it because we use McAfee. My Spybot scans were taking five to six hours - I disabled mcAfee and thinsg were normal. I am going to monitor the sites that we go to for awhile - and run a number of Spybot scans over the next few days to see if I can determine where we arew getting at least some of the spyware. Maybe I am out in left field here but we keep getting the same items on each scan and so they have to be coming from sites that we visit regularly. This spyware stuff should be illegal but how would you enforce it? Good luck and I hope this maybe helped a bit. Gary:) :) :)

Many users have reported a problem after the advanced check library update (version 1.5) from the 2007-01-12:

The scan was much faster before, now it takes longer than one hour.
But we were able to fix the problem yet. You can download the fix first in our forum:
http://www.safer-networking.org/files/beta/advcheck151test.zip
Later it will be availible as update. You just have to extract the zip file and then exchange the advcheck.dll in your Spybot folder manually - usually located at: C:\Programms\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Updates
This should solve the problem.
