Thanks! I really hope it is solved now! :) I haven't got any pop-ups since the evening yesterday so I don't know if the infected files had changed from then on or if it was gone then already but I don't now why if that's the case..!?


I just have a few short questions about the security if that's okey!? :)

1. Windows Defender says "the system has changed by a known program" once in a while and the program seems to be a file in a folder called "Bonjour", This happens everytime I connect or disconnect to Internet. I haven't seen that before, is that a safe program or what is it?

2. Before I had Norton Antivirus AND Norton Internet Security, (both in the same programin some way), but now I just have Norton Antivirus. Do I miss some security now or is it enough to have just the Antivirus program?

3. I have Norton Antivirus 2008, is there any more program that you think I should have to stay clean? I search with Adaware sometimes also. Is there more programs I should continue using or download? Read a earlier post by you where you mentioned Mbam and something more I think.

4. And one more thing, the question I wrote earlier: When I now started my computer again a Symantec message came up and it says: "Low Risk Alert. A remote system is attempting to access wininit on your computer." And after that some facts about path, remote address etc. It recommends that I choose "allow always" so I choosed that one but it feels weird to accept a remote system access my computer.
Should I choose "Allow" again if that warning pops up again?

Besides the 4 questions above there is only 2 more things that now have happened. (Think it's for the best to ask you directly instead of coming back with the virus again in a few days! :))


1. When my computer got infected a few days ago it made my free hard drive space shrink more and more till it wasn't anything left, I think it happened more and more depending on how much I was on the web. So I tried to delete all the web history in IE's Tools and then it went back to about 10 GB that I had free before the infection. Now I see that the free space on C: still shrinks with about maybe 500 MB when I just click around on a few news sites. Is that normal or is something still collecting data from me or something?

2. I just activated TeaTimer again and almost directly a changed registry entry came up and it asked about exactly that file that you wanted me to delete earlier but I couldn't find it, look my "printed screen pic" that I attached to this message. After that question a few more registry changes of some strange files came up and I choosed "Deny" to all of them just to be on the safe side.
Is everything okey or is these things signs on some infection etc that's left?

Oops, here comes the "print screen pic" that I forgot to attach in the last message.

Oh damn! ONE more thing. The last things seems to be TeaTimer's "fault". When I wanted to shut down my computer yesterday some kind of warning pop-ups came up that said:

"Access violation at address 694C5405. Read of address 694C5405."

"Access violation at address 00470A21 in module "TeaTimer.exe". Read of address 00000010."

"Access violation at address 6AC11A76. Read of address 6AC11A76."

"Access violation at address 00000000. Read of address 00000000."

I clicked on the empty button that was the only choice if I didn't want to loose any data. I clicked a few times to get rid of one of them and then the other one came up and so on til I finally could shut down my computer.

Is it necessary to have TeaTimer on? It pop ups "Allow", "Deny" questions often now and I don't ever know what the files are so I just click "Deny" on everything hehe.. :P

1. Could be also a sign of hard drive failure. Have you cleaned temp files lately?

Okey, maybe I have Norton security also but it just says Norton Antivirus in the Norton Protection Center but it's okey then I think hehe. It has deactivated Windows Firewall so something else is there instead I hope.. ;)

Yes. My temp folder I clean out often. And when I do that my free space get back to normal until I'm on Internet again. But I've searched with Mbam and Spybot now again and it doesn't find anything wrong. Only Norton and Adaware but it's just some cookies I think.

Okey, good. Then I hope that "upunsdmb.exe" file isn't a bad one.. :P
 
File is bad but is it just registry entry for which Windows Defender warns about?
 
The warning that comes up is from Spybot. The one that I attach here (the same pic as in the earlier message) So now I've choosed "remember this decision" and then I clicked "Deny change". Then another message about that file came up also but cannot remember what it said then... :/
I will deactivate TeaTimer soon I think and hope that the file doesn't infect me or something again later.
Do you think my computer is clean now or something more to be checked or deleted first?

TeaTimer just warns that entry has been deleted like it should.
 
But now the window doesn't pop up anymore cause I choosed "Deny" and checked the box "remember this decision". Do you think the bad file is gone anyway or how do I change that to "Allow"?
 
Then do this:

We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:

1. Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
2. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
3. On the left hand side, Click on Tools
4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
5. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
6. Restart your computer.

Download ResetTeaTimer.bat to the Desktop

Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat to remove all entries set by TeaTimer (and preventing TeaTimer to restore them upon reactivation).

Fix this entry:

Reboot.

Re-enable TeaTimer.

And tell me if it still warns about it :)
 
The Reset tool says "Unsupported version" and then I just can choose "exit" and the program closes.

But I searched through with HijackThis and found the file "O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [apicomchk] C:\Windows\system32\upunsdmb.exe". You want me to remove this one anyway?
 
I also found that this one was back:

And one more, but in that one it was some letters different after "BHO:"

Yes, you can fix those both :)

If they come back after re-enabling of TeaTimer then do this:

1. Uninstall spybot.

2. Fix those entries.

3. Re-install spybot and re-enable TeaTimer.

Those should stay away after that.
 
Hi again! One of them came back so I did as you said and now they are gone even when I rebooted. Thank you!

If you have a few seconds over you can answer these questions, I'm just curious so I know if I'll get infected again, otherwise I thank you SO much for all your help, you get 12 out of 12 points from Sweden!! ;)

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Now lets uninstall ComboFix:

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK

Next we remove all used tools.

Please download OTCleanIt and save it to desktop.
  • Double-click OTCleanIt.exe.
  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.

Note: If you receive a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTCleanIt attempting to contact the internet, please allow it to do so.

  • Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows Vista then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

Re-enable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
  • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
  • Click once on the Security tab
  • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
  • Click once on the Custom Level button.
  • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
  • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
  • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
  • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
  • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
  • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
  • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
  • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
  • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.   • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

I've done everything in the last message but one. It's the "MVPS Hosts file" that seems kinda advanced hehe, is that one a important thing to do? :)
 
Yes it is a bit tricky when OS is Vista.

Those are additional resources so if you feel that there is too much work, you can skip it :)
