Thanks for all your assistance. Throughout this process I have been using the Firefox product and plan on using it extensively. Is there any method of using Firefox to run the MS Windows Update program?

No not that I know of. Some sites like MS and others will require you to use Internet Explorer, can't change that unfortunately
