Shortcuts and applications missing Internet Explorer Settings problems

Yes...

For example, I've no Solitaire and Hearts application, I've tried manual search and using the original file extentions. I've tried a couple of help guides too.

If there's any other methods you can recommend, together with the links you were to refer me to with regards internet speed/browsing problems etc please could you help? Especially the annoying problem where the Int Explorer settings never save their settings once applied and this option always prevents directly loading up my home page instead.

Many thanks

Possible SP3 issue??

I think if anything they could have gone after installing Windows XP SP3

I'm also looking to uninstall Internet Explorer, but there's no uninstaller, I've decided to use Firefox. Hoping you can help

Many thanks

Windows Applications missing & Spybot TeaTimer advice

Hi,

Thanks for your help. I still need help solving with reference posts 19 & 20 please of this thread.

I've followed a instruction guide which has allowed me to uninstall IE7 successfully - I've the setup file should I wish to use later.

Please could you also help as whether it is now advisable to now reset and reactivate the Spybot TeaTimer, I shall provide a HJT for you if required.

Many thanks for your help

Yes it is good to activate TeaTimer now. Please post a fresh HijackThis log afterwards.

As for remaining issues, you can try to insert windows cd and choose to install those missing parts.

Updated HJT log and TeaTimer reactivated

Please find the log following reactivation of TeaTimer

Are there any other programs you would recommend I install? I'mstruggling to reinstall IE7, but I'm in the process of downloading and installing Widows Updates for version 6 so hopefully this may help.

Would I then be in a position wherby I could also backup the pc in case something similar was to happen in the future?

Many thanks

"Are there any other programs you would recommend I install? I'mstruggling to reinstall IE7, but I'm in the process of downloading and installing Widows Updates for version 6 so hopefully this may help."

I will give a list in my final instructions soon :)

"Would I then be in a position wherby I could also backup the pc in case something similar was to happen in the future?"

Rather after final instructions.

Did you try this?

"As for remaining issues, you can try to insert windows cd and choose to install those missing parts."

Windows Applications

I'm struggling to find where I can find the files on the CD having had a browse

I've only got the following apps in the Entertainment folder:
Voice recorder;

Games Folder:
Pinball (has component missing/loads with error and then closes)
Spider Solitaire

Is there a way I can find the other files manually from the CD

Many thanks

Go to start - control panel - add/remove programs and choose add or remove windows components from left hand side.

Thanks

I've managed to get most some more games in the games folder, but my Entertainment folder in Accessories not reads Empty on my start menu?

There should be recorder and sound volume. Are you able to choose them via
add or remove windows components?

No, the volume control and recorder options are not available through the accessories & utilities

I've ensured they're all ticked, for example calculator and solitaire, but I don't appear to find it in the start menu or when searching manually using the search option

This is strange :s

I've managed to find a download as the scannow option failed to resolve anything - the download has enabled the accessories folder to be restored, however, some of the shortcuts have missing links, whereas some of the apps are corrected on clicking fix now.

I still had a problem with volume control and hyper terminal.
I've re-run sfc /scannow and it resolved volume control but not hyper terminal.

I then did the add/remove windows components and go my games folder back.

Eventually it looks ok, barring the hyper terminal application - what is that anyway??!!

Again many thanks

Fresh HJT log, time to wrap up?

Thanks!! I can't see myself using that application anytime soon...

Here is a fresh HJT log & would like to know if my PC is now looking ok to wrap, along with your recommendations to protect my pc using any additional software, ideal software setup etc

Many many thanks

Final Instructions

Yes I think I'm ready

I cannot install IE7 & have checked the troubleshooting site, however, I understand I can install IE8 but I'll wait until a non-beta version becomes available. I ran an updated application of Malwarebytes' and it came back clean.

Firefox is treating me well and seems much faster, less hanging screens and connection problems - Any related problems I'll address separately with my ISP. All I require is a Google Toolbar for Firefox if there's one available, any ideas? I'm unsure if there's a Firefox version available - Through Filehippo.com perhaps?

All in all I'd like to thank you for your kind help and patience.

Many thanks
