background updater wont start , 20 files need to be updated, spybot 2

hello,

flag in upper right corner says update service stopped. dialog asks if i wish to elevate but doesn't change anything. updater says many times 1 of three attempts to retrieve updates fail and i cant get any of the 20 or so files to update. thnks
 
Pretty much the same deal,but it's worth a try seeing what happens if you try the start center in Settings.Open the Spybot start center,checkmark advanced mode,then click Settings,say yes to the UAC prompt,then click the System Services tab.If it says Start on the Updating Service tab,with a yellow caution exclamation mark underneath,then click the button to see if it will start.If it does,click Apply and then Ok.
