Bad Checksum On All Spybot Definition Updates (29.08.26)

For some weeks the number of sources listed for Spybot definition updates have been reduced and are now down to just two.

Problem is that in both cases they refuse to update definitions because of reported 'Bad Checksums'.

This has been a long time problem with some of the download source options but there was always one that would be OK.

Now with the reduction in download sources and both reporting 'Bad Checksums' it is a bit of a problem.

I know my version of Spybot Search & Destroy is old but if the definitions updates are listed it should update and the 'Bad Checksum' message suggests a problem with the download ID validity not the update itself.

I have tested the updater and am not able to reproduce this issue.

Can you please send a screenshot showing the errors that appear during the update?

Thank you for sharing the screenshots.

I have tested the updates in Spybot 1.6.2 and I am not able to reproduce the bad checksum error, and can download the updates susccessfully.

What version of Windows are you using?

Do you have any other security programs running real time proteciton that could be interfering with the Spybot updates?

I will pass on this thread to one of our detectives for more feedback :)

THX. It is working today and i was possible to download the updates!

I have only a virus scanner running.

Whatever the problem was it now appears it has been fixed, at least for me.

I didn't think to try both download sources to check but the first one of the two I tried (I think it was the second) happily updated Spybot v1.6.2 definitions to the current set without the 'Bad Checksum!' error message.

The problem I was having was with an old Win 7 host PC and also using a WinXP VM with Spybot installed on that too. Both reported the same checksum error.

I don't think the evidence points to it being an AV or other security tool intervention simply because it only seems to affect one or two of the download sources and those, apparently, irregularly.

As said in my original post this problem, when I've noticed it, has occurred a great number of times with one or more of the Spybot definition update download sources. Obviously I don't check each source every time I update. So I have no idea exactly how often this issue occurs But we're certainly talking years.

What I do know is that when I am made aware of it because of some trouble with my preferred source (FileHippo?) which is rare, it is does tend to be with one of the only two sources now currently listed. Again I'm not sure which but in this case it was both.
