Hi

You don't seem to have an antivirus installed but we don't install it yet because I suspect file infecting vundo and it wouldn't be wise to install one while it's active.

Please make sure that windows own firewall is enabled.

1. Download combofix from any of these links and save it to Desktop:
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you (C:\ComboFix.txt). Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

Post:

- a fresh HijackThis log
- combofix report

bad news! none of the processes mentioned were running...... upon reboot combo fix find 3m window stalled after telling me where the log would be and desktop disappeared so I could not retreive the log nor run hjt before I had to reboot (approx 30 min).....after reboot the log was not located where it was supposed to be did i do something wrong? should I wait longer?

PS the desktop always flashes off and on so I have be very quick to start anything or I have to try again...then after a period of time desktop disappears totally.....

eddie

Yes this is the problem I cant get rid of......the only thing I have found is to use msconfig to go to diagnostic mode...then I can run combo fix till completion when i see a log....but i cannot use normal mode desktop flashes then disappears and eventually gone totally and in safe mode i can see no desktop at all
enclosed is the completed run in diagnostic mode (only way i can get it to finish)...but when i return to normal mode it goes back to flashing again

Hi

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Please click this link-->Jotti

When the jotti page has finished loading, click the Browse button and navigate to the following file and click Submit.

C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask .exe (there is space between k and .)

Repeat step for C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe

Please post back the results of the scan in your next post.

If Jotti is busy, try the same at Virustotal: http://www.virustotal.com/

no guarantees about the availability and continuity of this service. Although
the detection rate afforded by the use of multiple antivirus engines is far
superior to that offered by just one product, these results DO NOT guarantee the
harmlessness of a file. Currently, there is not any solution that offers a 100%
effectiveness rate for detecting viruses and malware.
