bypass request for updates on initial install

During the install process, S&D (apparently) connects to the internet to download updates. However, the machine that I am installing it on is so hosed that this step fails, and consequently, so does the installer.

Is there any way around this?
 
Yes, you can always bypass the "update" process. During the installation wizard, untick "Check for Updates Immediately".
