Can someone help me with a virus that spybot can't remove?

I have spent over eight hours today trying to remove this virsus, and it keeps regenerating or something. It started at about 5am this morning, my Avast went off and said it detected a virus and I deleted the file. Then I did a system restore. Stupid me.. I didn't know that the virus was likely inbedded in that until I tried to do some research later thsi afternoon at about 2pm, when my Avast went off again with about five or six virus alert pop ups. Each time I hit delete and it seemed to finally settled down. Then I went to do a system restore and noticed all my system restore points were now gone. I tried to research this problem online to see what to do. I turned off the system restore, went into safe mode, ran ad-aware and spybot, then restarted, but I still have problems when I log onto the internet, with windows just popping up. Then I downloaded HiJack This and I deleted the no name/no file stuff and something that said something like web buying, which I googled and saw was bad. Then I downloaded PrevxCSI and it deleted three bad files. But ultimately they keep regenerating still. I can not get rid of this and don't know what to do anymore. Here is my latest HiJack log....

Sorry this is four posts. I only just read now not to post more than two, and only just now got a private message saying to only post what was asked of me. :S I just wanted to make sure you had all the information you seem to need to be able to help me with this. I won't post again until I receive a helpers response asking me what to post or what to do. Thank you so much for all of the helpers here who do this for us. I feel like I am drowning right now and have no idea what to do. It is a terrible feeling. What makes it worse... I just ran that Kaspersky report and it took like 60 mins, and when it was done it popped up and I accidentally closed it. Then I had to run it all over again.

I am still infected and need help

OK... I think I have the right HiJack program now. Here is the report. I did this in safe mode with network connection. It is the only way to keep the browser pop ups from happening. Also I noticed that some of the no name stuff I had said I initially removed in my first post before finding this forum, is showing up in the HiJack This back up - in case I should restore any of it for any reason.. though I don't know how to make a log of that stuff. Also, I haven't received any help on this since Five days now, so I will go to the waiting room and post this link there. Thank you. - Donna

Please post next a fresh HijackThis log taken in normal mode

When I tried to go into normal mode I had a pop up "windows" error and then some other error (?) and things sort of stuck, so I shut down and restarted again to normal mode. Then just as I went to post this here, another pop up happened (and I think this one is good?) that said, "Spybot-S&D Bad Url Blocker, and something about multi-pops.com/adsDirect...Smitfraud-C.CoreService -- I wasn't sure what to do and do I hit Deny. Anyway, here is the log in normal mode.

Hi

We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:

1. Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
2. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
3. On the left hand side, Click on Tools
4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
5. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
6. Restart your computer.

1. Download combofix from any of these links and save it to Desktop:

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you (C:\ComboFix.txt). Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

Hi,

I downloaded the combofix to my desktop. When I first tried to run it I received an error that said, "Windows can not find 'C:\WINDOWS\System32\kmd.exe.' yadda yadda". I wasn't sure what to do, so I clicked ok to close the error window. Then I tried to run the combofix again, and this time it ran. It started at 13:18, and ran through pretty fast, and by 13:25 it had rebooted my system and was creating the log, and by 13:29 it was completed. Below is the log and the new HJT log as well.

Save this as "CFScript"

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

Hi,

I did what you said. The file saved as "CFScript.txt" and not as just "CFScript", but I assumed that was ok. The ComboFix ran again, though it did not reboot my system this time. I ran the Hijack This and was ready to post both the HJT report and ComboFix log, but when I tried to get onto the internet, it was not working at all, even though my modem seemed to be fine. I tried both IE7 and Firefox, and neither worked. I did not know what to do, so I rebooted. Once rebooted, then I was able to get online again.

Yes that is normal and happen only if combofix doesn't reboot.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:

o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

+ Extended (If available otherwise Standard)

o Scan Options:

+ Scan Archives
+ Scan Mail Bases
Click OK
Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Now click on the Save as Text button
Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Note: This scanner will work with Internet Explorer Only!

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.

Hi

Empty these folders:

C:\aaaaTemp\Setups\HiJack This\backups
C:\QooBox\Quarantine

Empty Recycle Bin.

All other viruses are in system restore and inactive.

I give you later instructions how to empty it.

Other than that, any problems left?

My system seems back to normal now and there are no more pop up browser windows. Though I do have one question about the updated Spybot program. I notice now that very frequently a small pop up comes from the program and it says, "Spybot-S&D IE helper has detected an URL that is known as a malicious resource" and it awaits for me to click on "Deny" so that the pop up will disappear, but the pop up happens a lot. Is there any way to set the program so that I di not get any pop up and the program just deny's these malicious URLs automatically? I find those pop ups, though helpful, to be just as annoying as the virus problem.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Looking over your log, it seems you don't have any evidence of a third party firewall.

As the term conveys, a firewall is an extra layer of security installed onto computers, which restricts access to systems from the outside world. Firewalls protect against hackers and malicious intruders. I want you to download a free firewall NOW from one of these excellent vendors:

1) Comodo
2) Online Armor
3) Sunbelt/Kerio
4) Agnitum
5) ZoneAlarm (uncheck ZoneAlarm Spy Blocker during installation if you choose this one)

If you are using the built-in Windows XP firewall, it is not recommended as it does not block outgoing connections. This means that any malware on your computer is free to "phone home" for more instructions. Simply put, Windows XP contains a mediocre firewall. This firewall is NO replacement for a dedicated software solution. Remember to use only one firewall at the same time.

Next we remove all used tools.

Please download OTMoveIt2 and save it to desktop.

Double-click OTMoveIt2.exe.
Click the CleanUp! button.
Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.

Note: If you receive a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTMoveIt2 attempting to contact the internet, please allow it to do so.

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.
Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Here are some additional utilities that will enhance your safety

MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Comodo BOCLEAN <= Stop identity thieves from getting personal information. Instantly detects well over 1,000,000 unique, variant and repack malware in total. And it's free.
Winpatrol <= Download and install the free version of Winpatrol. a tutorial for this product is located here:

Stand Up and Be Counted ---> Malware Complaints <--- where you can make difference!

The site offers people who have been (or are) victims of malware the opportunity to document their story and, in that way, launch a complaint against the malware and the makers of the malware.
