can't download mcafee IE redirects

mcafee failure

heres the process
att internet security suite by mcafee
downloads dmsetup-serial.exe
runs
Asks to install antivirus plus elite, click yes
product install begins downloads compatability checker
asks to restart computer
opens mcafee scans computer
(at this point get the warning your computer not fully protected, get the M with x over it on taskbar)
gathers download info and starts install of security center, virus scan, firewall, site advisor, easy network
stalls at first program and get checks that all fail.
sends me to mcafee virtual tech to download
start that download and get Just in time debugging - an exception "runtime error" has occured in script, do you want to debug? set current debugger as default - i clicked no
virtual tech find 10 problems
says can fix registry entry prob and process not running
says cant fix missing files and service not running
does the fix with still failure - close
open mcafee from taskbar and has errors
virus protection not installed, outbound firewall not installed
go to free online tech where they want me to go to mcafee techs to fix over phone for $89 or so.....
 
Could you try one of those alternative protection solutions I suggested?
 
got rid of all traces of mcafee and installed avira. will see how it works. it also gave me the option to download free premium thru best buy etc... should i do this? also how does this program work with spybot, malwarebytes, hijackthis, atf cleaner still on my computer? should i keep those or uninstall.

That would probably require you to buy something from Best buy. I'd stick with free version first.

also how does this program work with spybot, malwarebytes, hijackthis, atf cleaner still on my computer? should i keep those or uninstall.
Antivir works well with those. You may uninstall HijackThis though.

this is my last post. Thanks so much for the help and advice blade. Avira seems to working well. All is well with access to internet. I will continue to update everything religiously!
