Can't get Spybo to update - won't connect to server

I have used Spybot S & D for a number of years now and I have always updated regularly - no worries. Now all of a sudden it won't do it anymore. It keep saying error retrieving file Socket error #10060 Connection timed out. It is not making any connection with the server. It looks like something is blocking it on my computer but I don't know what. The only firewall I have on my computer is Windows and I have added the Spybot program to the exceptions list. Didn't work. Then I turned off the firewall. Didn't work. Thing is - in the security centre in control panel it says "at least one of the firewalls installed on this computer is enabled" but I disabled Windows firewall and I don't have any others. What is going wrong??? How do I fix this??? Please can anyone help!?!?!?

Thanks in advance,
Donna

Did you have another firewall installed before you started using Windows firewall, that you've since uninstalled?

Ok,I'd been having a problem (somewhat, but not quite) similar to that, because of a firewall I used to have installed,so I thought I'd ask.

There is a manual update available on this page(it's for 2006-12-15):
http://www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html
You could update that way, until you are able to get this resolved.(and you'd want to re-enable your firewall whenever you're not trying to troubleshoot the update problem.)

How long have you been getting the 'Socket error #10060 Connection timed out' error when you try to update?

same error here

...been using the software for a long time too and just now when I downloaded and installed ver 1.4 anfter uninstalling the previous version that i started getting this error.

error 10061

...sorry my error was 10061 and from the Miccosoft page the description was:

WSAECONNREFUSED
10061
Connection refused.
No connection could be made because the target computer actively refused it. This usually results from trying to connect to a service that is inactive on the foreign host—that is, one with no server application running.

Fixed it!!

Turns out I was behind a hidden firewall on my router.:ninja: Even though I had followed the instructions from D Link Support to turn off the firewall... Also, don't know how it all of a sudden started happening when I hadn't touched the router's settings since I started with it 6 mths ago.

I found this post online:

http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=113920

and followed it. I have a different router so it was not exactly the same and I had to go looking. I also didn't have to do the ports thing either. But the controls in the IP address I found doing this had heaps more things that the 10.1.1.1 page I had been using. I found 3 places to disable firewall and also enabled my IP address in the DMZ.

Hope this might help someone out there...

Good luck!

internal update follies

No XP, no router here - whatever happened to the MS error-code link (fwiw:-/)? Yes, v1.3 _was_ somewhat more-or-less dependable with its internal updater (until it *wasn't*..) and then in the shift to v1.4 the internal updater is not so available due to various errors, etc.

Currently I'm having (usually) #10057 and (once) #11001 after a *clean* re-install of v1.4

This with the firewall preconfigged to allow SSD1.4 access both in/out on UDP and TCP - have no idea of why the internal updater no longer works properly as it more-or-less did in v1.3 - more of a convenience issue as the manual updates from:
http://www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html
seem to work okay (good thing they're /only/ once-a-week or so), but it'd be nice to get the 'new' version fully-functional ;)
