Collected.11.B and I-Worm/Generic.BBY

By the way, the 2 files you told me to delete from the explorer window were already gone when I looked for them. I deleted the whole Download Manager folder as it seemed empty anyhow.

You still have the Vundo infection:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E055DA5A-610E-4A4A-8324-44813587DBE1} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvtq.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: awvtq - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvtq.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PrintDrive] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\yhfkiplj.dll",setvm
Then this item is morphing back because it is not all removed.

Try Vundo fix again, as soon as it shows all files deleted, including this one: awvtq.dll

Then do this:

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E055DA5A-610E-4A4A-8324-44813587DBE1} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvtq.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PrintDrive] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\yhfkiplj.dll",setvm
O20 - Winlogon Notify: awvtq - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvtq.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\yhfkiplj.dll <<< delete that file

Post a HJT log.

Thanks

awvtq.dll was already in the Vundo list, and

O20 - Winlogon Notify: awvtq - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvtq.dll

was not in the HJT list, and

C:\WINDOWS\system32\yhfkiplj.dll
was not in the folder.

I still think I'm infected though, so here are the fresh logs and I will wait for your next reply.

I promissed my son I would take him to the movies, so I will get back around 3pm EST or so, so if you have others to help, no rush for my post until then.

Thx

This last HJT appears clean of Vundo, tell me why you think you are still infected.

Thanks

If I am clean... I am really happy. The only reason I thought I might still be infected is because I noticed that most of the time, the files you asked me to get HJT to delete had O2 - BHO: (no name) - then something... so when I saw O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll... I thought it might be another infected file.

=)

Roz

Before closing this post... I'd also like to ask you one (or 2) question(s). Do you think I am right in thinking it is the Nero episode that infected me? If so, all the files that I put on VCD for my son (about 12 CDs), should I throw them out and get all the files over again and redo them all? My son would use view them on his computer's CD Rom (as he does not have a DVD Rom), and I don't want to take a chance at infecting it.

and P.S. With my problem with the trojan Horse Generic3.UUB, should I open up a new post for that in a different section of the forums or can you help with that too? Cause I just rebooted my computer, and I got 3 pop-ups of it being found in 3 different .dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\isputskk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\osntmrcb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pjqxtvsj.dll

Thx

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll
That's the line marker for Spybot S&D. I have never figured out why HJT can't find the name, just another HJT quirk.
If it helps, this little tool: http://www.castlecops.com/CLSID.html will search the Class Identification number. In this case when I enter:
53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F it returns this information:
(no name) {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} L BHO SDhelper.dll SpyBot Search&Destroy
Try it out on another number, and you will be on your way to becoming a malware remover...lol

thinking it is the Nero episode that infected me?
http://www.nero.com/enu/index.html
I can't really say, one of the problems with programs that let you download, is that the program can be very safe as are most of the PwP type programs, the issues is are the files kids are sharing infected? Also...are the files they are sharing illegal?
You may be able to have your antivirus program search the files on the CD to find out if they are infected or not.

I can say you did not get the Vundo infection that way, that generally comes via an exploint in a program like Java that is out of date and the hackers know it. It does not take much to get infected anymore.
This >>> Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.0_01 is likely why you got the vundo infection.

What program is tell ing you this?
I got 3 pop-ups of it being found in 3 different .dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\isputskk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\osntmrcb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pjqxtvsj.dll

Use this tool to Delete all three of those:
How to use the Delete on Reboot tool
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html#delreb
Start Hijackthis
Click on the Config button
Click on the Misc Tools button
Click on the button labeled Delete a file on reboot...
A new window will open asking you to select the file that you would like to delete on reboot. Navigate to the file: (enter the complete file here such as: C:\WINDOWS\system32\isputskk.dll) and click on it once, and then click on the Open button.
You will now be asked if you would like to reboot your computer to delete the file. Click on the Yes button if you would like to reboot now. You may add all three before you tell it to remove the files.
Post a new HJT log and tell me how things are running. They may have been files left from the infection.

Thanks

Basically, it seemed clean for a whole 5 minutes then I got re-infected somehow? I had not deleted the backup files, could this be how I got re-infected?

Some of these files are valid, the ones in red are valid files, careful what you do.

Well, we appear to be making no progess with this infection. It is important that you follow the directions exactly and in the numbered order. If you can not follow a direction, I need to know about it.

1) Much of the stuff that is showing now had been removed and the only thing I have seen do that is TeaTimer. Please start by uninstalling Spybot in Add Remove Programs:
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4

2) Now follow these directions to turn of the guard feature in AVG-AntiSpyware:
AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield - Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

3) These instruction must be followed, you must be able to see the bad files.
How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\Download Manager\ <<< delete that folder

C:\WINDOWS\system32\lxhlgmkj.dll <<< delete that file

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

7) Please download VirtumundoBeGone:
http://secured2k.home.comcast.net/tools/VirtumundoBeGone.exe
* Save it to the Desktop
* Close all running programs (including your Internet Browser)
* Double-click VirtumundoBeGone.exe on the Desktop
* Follow the directions as indicated

This program may generate a "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH" which is an expected/necessary part of the process.
Do not be concerned.
Just reboot if your system "jams".

To confirm successful deletion, and determine if there are any additional problems, please post the VirtumundoBeGone log VBG.txt. It is found on the Desktop.

Restart the computer and post the VBG.txt from VirtumundoBeGone and a new HJT log.

DO NOT
reinstall Spybot yet.

Thanks

I had followed all the instructions in order, but in the section on how to disactivate the teatimer, it also said to re-activate once done for my own protection... so once you told me I was clean, I reactivated it... and this is when I got those files back.

Ok, now here goes.

1) done

2) done

3) done

4) I have "fixed" all these from HJT

6) done

7) done, took a whole 2 seconds, no "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH" or reboot, it just opened up the log right away.

Rebooted, and here are the logs for VBG and a new HJT log.

I did not reinstall Spybot yet, to tell you the truth, I did not even have it until a few days before I posted on this site (I don't even really know how to use it - what to allow, what to deny)... I had read a post regarding Collected.11.B saying we should have it... then after more reading and searching, I found this site.

Thanks for the feedback, it will not be the first time I have had to uninstall Spybot because of TeaTimer. Spybot is a great program, but I prefer SpywareGuard which is also freeware and does the same job, to TeaTimer myself. Let's see how you did.
This HJT log looks clean of malware:bigthumb:

I keep looking at this program: C:\Program Files\Personal Vault\VaultClientSRV.exe
It looks like a valid program, if you do not know it is there, let me know.

Sympatico Security Advisor <<< do you use that program? See this link:
https://securityservices.sympatico.ca/display.do?jsp=/jsp/services/download-instructions.jsp
Note: Before installing our Anti-Virus or Firewall software, it is strongly recommended that you remove any existing Anti-Virus and Firewall software from your computer.

I will post links from experts with advice, once you have reviewed the information if you have questions posted them.
I am not sure what is running with that Bell Program. What you want to be sure of is that you are running one good anti-virus program (AVG is a good freeware program) one firewall (I would not rely on the Windows SP2 firewall) and at least one Spyware program running in realtime. AVG Anti-Spyware is a good one but it gives no realtime protection after the trial. If I have posted any of this information before, forgive me, it has been a long day.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

Hehe... PersonalVault and Sympatico are programs that I do use. I work for Sympatico which is one of the biggest ISP in Ontario/Quebec. It is a branch of Bell Canada (this is who I actually work for, as a High Speed provisioner for Sympatico). Personal Vault is a program that helps you backup some files and pictures and stuff online on a secure website instead of on CDs... and can be shared with other users if wanted too...

Thank you for your help, it is so much appreciated, I know you spent most of your Saturday helping me, and it is very very VERY appreciated.

Thx, Roz

Hi Roz, and you are certainly welcome, but I actually have about 15 active repairs working right now. There is nothing wrong with those programs, my advice will be repeated in the links I provided. You want to see what Bell is providing you. If they provide you antivirus protection then uninstall the AVG Anti-Virus program:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000031316555206
"Microsoft recommends that you have only one anti-virus program installed on your computer."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/03/AR2005120300087.html
http://www.smartcomputing.com/editorial/article.asp?article=articles/2003/s1407/38s07/38s07.asp

Same thing with the firewall, if they supply one, then uninstall any others you are running and that includes turning off the SP2 firewall if it is enabled. Even though the jury is still out on how many active spyware programs to run, I personally suggest only one. This does not include on demand scanners like Spybot/Ad-aware, etc. that you start/scan and turn off.

Safe surfing...Phil

Actually, Bell does provide me with an anti-virus, but the license would not allow me to re-install it on my new computer when I got it, saying it was not the right computer and too many licences already running, so I had to unsubscribe to it, then wait a while and resubscribe, so as soon as I get the CD for the newer version, I am getting rid of AVG, AVG was just a band-aid while waiting for Sympatico's (MSN Premium with AV and AS and Firewall all included) to get activated again. I have not yet checked the links yet, but I will as soon as I have a chance...

I assumed you had lots of others on the go as you sometimes took a while to get back to me... =)

I know it is certainly appreciated. Not many volunteers would work on a weekend I'm sure

Sounds like you know what you are doing now. Most volunteers also help at other forums, as do I. I used to be quicker but nine months ago I had to drive to the ER to pick of a stent for a blocked fuel line and since then my doctor insists I spend some of my day outside on my bicycle. I just had number 65 on 4/19 and hope to be around to help for a while yet, so I have to pace myself:laugh:

Thanks...enjoyed working with you...Phil
Here is a peak at my hometown:
http://www.beachtourism.com/pier.htm

You know, as much as I'd love to live in Florida with the warth, the sun, the beaches and mostly those boats in the marina... I think I would still chose Ottawa over it... no tornado, no earthquakes, less guns :p:

Thanks a million for all your help, as frustrated as I sometimes found it (I'm French, and I sometimes had to read some instructions 3 or 4 times before really understanding what you were asking of me), I truly enjoyed your help.

Take care, and keep that bike active... I still gotta get mine back in working condition as it spent the winter outside burried in snow ;)

As much as I enjoyed "talking" to you, I hope I won't have to come back to this site.

Hehe... I just realised what you meant by "I just had number 65 on 4/19" I had to re-read it a few times...

Happy belated Bday :bigthumb:
