Hello all,
The last few scans on spy bot came up with these items.. DOUBLE CLICK, HIT BOX, HIT LINK, and MEDIA PIX. does anyone have any idea if these are just tracking cookies, or anything more sinister ? spy bot removes them ok, i'm a little concerned where i may be picking them up. I have recently changed browsers to Firefox from IE, could it be connected ?

They all sound like tracking cookies and the problems report produced at the end of the scan (Check for problem) or a fix (Fix selected problems) should have indicated that. However, to be sure you can check the log produced at the end of the scan (Checks.yymmdd-hhmm.log) or a subsequent fix (Fixes.yymmdd-hhmm.log) and that log should tell you if those detections were tracking cookies or not (see Note #1).

Spybot's immunization process should block any tracking cookies that Spybot detects during a scan, so if you immunized you should no longer be detecting tracking cookies during the scan. Your browser(s) also have settings to block all third party cookies (tracking cookies). See the following FAQ:
Note #1: By default here are two Checks.yymmdd-hhmm.log files produced during a scan. The second Checks.yymmdd-hhmm.log has the details of what the scan found. A Fixes.yymmdd-hhmm.log file is produced if you fix or attempt to fix something.

There are two methods to review information from a previous scan:
  • Method 1:
    • Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced mode > Tools > View Reports > View Previous reports. Look for the Checks.yymmdd-hhmm.log or Fixes.yymmdd-hhmm.log file that contains the detections you are interested in. Open it.
  • Method 2
    • The Checks.yymmdd-hhmm.log and Fixes.yymmdd-hhmm.log files are stored in the following folders:
      • Windows 95 or 98:
        C:\Windows\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs
      • Windows ME:
        C:\Windows\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs
      • Windows NT, 2000 or XP:
        C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs
      • Windows Vista:
        C:\ProgramData\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs
    • Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the correct Checks.yymmdd-hhmm.log or Fixes.yymmdd-hhmm.log file. Double click on it and it should open with Notepad.

Note:
I haven't found any other info about other tracking cookies.

Changing browsers don't affect cookies.
Have you immunized firefox?
 
Hello tom k, I used the immunization tool, so i'm assuming it was immunized, should i use a specific procedure ? sorry to sound so vague but I'm not really Au fait with all aspects of computing. After reading a lot of the posts in here, I've realized I'm a bit of an ignoramus really, i do my best slowly slowly.

Thank you USA, Yes i have now disabled all third party cookies.
my scans are coming up clean, but they do hang around on that old chestnut pestering everyone, "virtuemonde" it takes over an hour to scan my files and most of the time the scanner is stalling on those few items, but still comes up clean. so i'm assuming it is !
