Error Msg. "KERNEL32.DLL Error" must close

When scanning either Lavasoft Ad-aware or
my Spybot S/D on windows ME ...

I get message program must close.

Also tried scanning w/o removing usage tracks.

Have used both programs for years without issue,
each is the latest updated version for my OS.

Could it be issues with latest defintions, problem just
started happening all of a sudden ?

No new software installed or major changes
 
kernel32 error

I've had the same problem after a malware and virus attack (someone said yes to an activex download on an untrusted site accidently). Now I get kernel32 errors when spybot is at the end of a scan or ad-aware is halfway through a scan or if IE6 is closed while spybot is running but closing IE6 doesn't cause an error if spybot isn't running. Also had some favorites folders deleted, restore functionality damaged and the registry rearranged, kept getting and endless string of 'project1' dialogues and popups appearing. Sorted out most of the problems but I'm still getting the kernel32 errors when spybot or ad-aware is running. Did you sort out your kernel32 error problem or are you still trying to sort it out?
