I picked up this virus in December 2009. I tried restoring the system from a previous point, or two. No success.
I have compared the registry of this computer (XP PRO) to another computer I use (not networked) and find that this one has Search Assistant in the registry, while the other, uninfected one does not.
When I run a registry analyzer program, I also find that the Search Assistant has placed some registry entries in various files/folders in My Documents, presumably to allow it to re-launch itself.
How do I get rid of this?
