Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
This can be a tough infection to remove so do not expect fast or easy.

1) Delete this copy of HJT.exe running from an unsafe location and follow the directions:
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\HiJackThis.exe

2) Download Trend Micro Hijack This™
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/hijackthis/HJTInstall.exe
Doubleclick the HJTInstall.exe to start it.
By default it will install HijackThis in the Program Files\Trendmicro folder and create a desktop shortcut.
HijackThis will open after install. <<< close HJT until you need it after combofix is run.

3) Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop

P.S. After combofix restarted my computer, I noticed that it created another Internet Explorer launch icon on my desktop. I clicked on that particular icon and it seemed to load faster.

1) C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\ <<< update Java as soon as possible, see this:

2) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Save this as CFScript

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post the combofix report, a new HJT log and some feedback. How is the computer running now.

Everything seems to be running better.Although, I was only able to locate one of the items you listed for me to delete:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: qoMgeBUk - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qoMgeBUk.dll

when I ran HJT to fix the checked items. Also, I uninstalled/reinstalled Java. I had the update 5 and Update 4 already and I uninstalled them both. When I tried to download the latest version, It told me I had to already have Java installed to get the update so I reinstalled Update 5 and installed the latest Update 6.

My computer seems to be running a little better than before now but I don't know if it's fully cured yet. Thanks for everything and let me know if there's something else I should do and any precautions I should take.

One of the reasons this infection (Vundo) is so hard to remove is the ability to morph and recreate itself, which it has done to some degree. Let's see what this does.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

Save this as CFScript

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

YES!!! It seems like everything's just about back to normal!In my HJT log, I wasn't able to find:

But I found the other 2 and then I restarted and everything started up fast and normal.

Thanks for the feedback and it looks like the HJT is clean of malware. Since this was a nasty infection I would like to take the time to run a couple of scans to make sure we got it all but before we can do that we need to address this problem.

I am sure you saw this:

Review that information to understand Recovery Console. Installation is optional but if you do not have the CD's needed, as is explained, it can be installed before we remove combofix.
If you do not wish to install RC, let me know so I can continue with the cleanup.
If you install RC, post the C:\*CF-RC.txt*.

Since we do not need to scan with combofix, click NO

Thanks, installed properly, that may come in handy in an emergency. Remove combofix and the C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\ folder from your computer.

You already ran Kaspersky Online Scan, run a new scan using these settings:
* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here. <<< no need to post a clean scan result.


Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.

UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

As far as those two drives, the E drive is my external drive. I guess once I installed it on my computer it automatically made restore files for it.I followed the directions and everything seems to be running good.Thanks for all your help and the links.I've learned alot from this and I'll make sure I forward anybody I know with any malware problems to this site!
