Greetings !!

This is my first post to this forum .. . . as a 51 year old Silver Surfer (!),
I am not very good on the fine arts of pc-speak , but I know that " If it looks good, then it is....! "
I have Desktop Sidebar, Object Desktop and Object Dock on board my Pc,...
so this is an advice before I dive in type of question . .
Basically, I also have MS Antispyware and A.V.G free on top of the windows firewall and the firewall that is built in to my modem . .
So . . ( here it comes . . ) . .
... If I Install Spybot s&d will there be ANY CONFLICT with the progs and apps that I am running . . and if there are any conflicts , how EASY will it be to address them . . ? Please, Please , bear in mind that I am an absolute beginner on pc language . . So, any instructions and /or/ advice should be
taken from the " PC for the absolutely Brain-Dead " book - page 1 ! ;)

On a side note, I love modding my pc and changing the way it looks , I can definitely confirm that I am an end user . . . ! ! :D

Once again , thanx for your patience ( in advance !!!! )... :bigthumb:

Cheers,:beerbeerb :beerbeerb :beerbeerb

Ad-aware - Will Installing Cause Problems ?

Welcome shostakovitch.

I do not believe there will be any conflict between the programs you mention and Spybot-S&D.
You may want to have only one resident antispyware real time protection enabled however as both teatimer and MSASW will popup warnings.
How Spybot-S&D protects against the installation of Spyware/Malware
Here is a good topic to read with tips for malware prevention:

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it : sorry it was a while to reply but
I am disabled and unwell for the last few weeks . . . .
However , I am thinking about installing AD-AWARE from lava soft - - will this program cause any conflicts ? ?

If you are talking about Ad-Aware SE Personal, the only conflict that I am aware of is as follows:

One of the addition features of Spybot is IE Tweaks:
  • If you go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > IE Tweaks there are three "Miscellaneous locks" on Spybot's IE tweaks page:
    • Lock Hosts file read-only as protection against hijackers
    • Lock IE start page setting against user changes (current user)
    • Lock IE control panel against opening from within IE (current user)
  • If you activate either or both of the last two (2) IE Tweaks, Ad-Aware SE Personal will detect these as possible threats during a scan:
    • "Lock IE start page setting against user changes (current user)" is detected as:
      • Name:Windows
        Category:Vulnerability
        Object Type:RegData
        Size:4 Bytes
        Location:...\software\policies\microsoft\internet explorer\control panel "Homepage" ()
        Last Activity:mm-dd-yyyy
        Relevance:Low
        TAC index:3
Comment:Manual changing of browser start-page restricted
Description:General Windows Security Issue. Your system security may be compromised. The specifics of the possible compromised item are listed in the comments section.
    • "Lock IE control panel against opening from within IE (current user)" is detected as:
      • Name:Windows
        Category:Vulnerability
        Object Type:RegData
        Size:4 Bytes
        Location:...\software\policies\microsoft\internet explorer\restrictions "NoBrowserOptions" ()
        Last Activity:mm-dd-yyyy
        Relevance:Low
        TAC index:3
        Comment:Manual changing of internet-settings restricted

  • I have these detections ignored in Ad-Aware SE Personal
I do not use either Ad-Aware Plus or Ad-Aware Professional so I do not know if there are conflicts with the active components of these products.
