Help with malware, please!

Hi there,

I am moderator in a couple of (free) Forums, related with my field (design). A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to be a Fix ya expert, and I accepted. In order to do this, I downloaded and installed a tool called Fix Ya Expert, designed to support chats with the users. I am almost sure this is the culprit, because other than this, I didn't install freeware
I check my computer every day with Spybot, Lavasoft, I have a cookie wall and Norton 360, so I imagined that I was safe :rolleyes:
Now, some odd popups are appearing in my IE, in very odd situations. Example, I am moderator of the Forum ABC--> when I open the Forum I am moderating, I see a pop up of the Forum 123, the competitor website :sad:
I unistalled the program, checked the registry for traces, but the popups remain there
BTW, the popups look more like floaters, because they "dance"

Make sure you read and follow the directions, anything else will slow the process and waste both of our time. I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
The junk can be tough to remove, so do not expect fast or easy.

As a forum moderator, you must know the importance of reading and following the directions. They are posted above and pinned (sticky) to the top of this forum. This does not sound like a malware problem, since you downloaded and uninstalled the junk yourself, but since the eula is rarely read, who knows what was bundled with it. If you will read and follow the directions, then post the required HijackThis log described in those directions to start us, I will do what I can to help.

Hi Phil,

I entered to the Forum to cancel the request but I found your answer

As I was too worried, last night a friend of mine ran HijackThis in my computer and as you wrote, there is not malware in my computer :eek:
But in the meantime, all the moderators at the Forum are seeing the same popup, so it is not my computer, but a "moderator privilege" :mad:
I set the "popup forum" as restricted site and at least I get rid of the annoyance
