After several runs, S&D keeps telling me that I have virtumund.dll trojan...please help me to get rid of it...

Make sure you read and follow the directions, anything else will slow the process and waste both of our time. I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
This can be a tough infection to remove so do not expect fast or easy.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop.

Download ComboFix from Here to your Desktop
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

okay...tried to download. Trend Micro kept blocking it. I finally got it to download but it never came up. The only thing that came up was can't rename to whatever....now what. Now I am getting Vista Anti virus pop ups. GREAT!!! Now what??
 
Well, how about unplugging the computer and dragging it to a technician and paying lots of $$$ for the repair?

I did not get you infected and I am willing to take time from my real life and family to lend a hand, but that is where you come in. You are telling me a tool "Trend Micro" that was supposed to protect you and did not, is stopping you from fixing the problem and you want me to do something about that.

My suggestion would be to click through some of the other members topics and look at combofix being used, I understand downloads are over one million a month for the tool. I suggest you take the time to review the tutorial to make sure you understand it and then turn of Trend Micro until you have combofix installed on the Desktop and run.

Morning Matt, good job of getting Recovery Console installed. What I need is the HJT log, before you post it, please do this:

We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

After that restart create and post a new HJT log. Make sure you are keeping this computer offline, it is very infected and the junk may download more.

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log. (wait until you finish to post the logs)

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

3) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post the log from CFScript, the log from MBAM and a new HJT log.

Please report on how the computer is running now.

As far as how my computer is running now? All I can say is WOW!!! I haven't seen it run this fast since we got it 2 years ago!! Thank you so much! This is going to make Matt very happy!!! (this is his girlfriend, Amanda) He was ready to pitch the whole computer and buy a new one.

1) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

2) Remove combofix from the computer like this:

Click START then RUN
Now type or copy Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

3) Update Trend Micro and scan the system to be sure it is running right and scanning clean. If you have any issues with the program, contact TM tech support for instructions.

If all is runnings as it should at this point I will leave this information with you.
