i click update, and the window closes

Ok i've had this problem for ages now.

I click update, and after it looks for updates it closes automatically. There is not enough time for me to click anything, it does not tell me "no updates are required..."

given I had not run the program in a month, I know updates should have shown up...

please give me ideas.

edit, sometimes this happens, and sometimes it does not. and Im talking tomorrow it might work.

Could you open Spybot,click Mode->Advanced Mode->Tools->View Report,then click View previous report?Scroll down,if there is an Update downloads.log located in there,please doubleclick it.Then rightclick and select 'Select All',then rightclick and select Copy,then paste it here.

fyi before uploading that log, i had downloaded and run the manual update exe

Do you mean you downloaded the manual detection updates from the downloads page?From here:

Do you have the 1.6.2 version of Spybot?

by the way, im not having the problem right now. it is always intermittent

Spybot should give you an error message if it has trouble connecting for an update,or at the very least the No newer updates available message,from all that I gather.
That,and the problem being intermittent make it unlikely Spybot is being blocked by your firewall.
Still,probably would be a good idea to double check first,I suppose.
What do you use for a firewall?

i use norton internet security 2009

You could go up to and just do the first step for number 5,and if it's there then step 14(Press ok).
Probably no need to bother with the other steps.

(In the list,it might be C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SDUpdate.exe.)

surprisingly spybot wasn't already in the list.

but before adding it I tried updating and it worked fine this time.

Someone else had a similar problem,and reinstalling Spybot seemed to work:
