I have the virtuemonde trojan... help please!

Good Evening.

I am posting from a different computer since the virtuemonde virus has messed up my computer I have the wireless radio turned off because I can remove it with SpyBot but as soon as I connect to the internet virtuemonde downloads itself again.

Please read as well

I have noticed that in other posts you advise to download combofix directly to the desktop I can do this but then will have to transfer via USB stick to my infected computer because I cannot access the internet on the infected computer will this cause problems.

I can put it back on the desktop on my infected computer and run it from there but just wanted to add that to my prior post.

One more thing... Please read

I have run spybot since I ran hijackthis should I get another hijackthis log or does it matter.. I was trying to post the log myself so after I had to remove the virtuemonde again and turnoff my wireless radio again.


All I did was run it remove virtuemonde and a tracing cookie... restart my computer and run it again to remove virtuemonde again.

Does running spybot affect the hijackthis log after I run spybot do I need to produce a new log.

Sorry for the additional messages I just wanted you to have all the information.

I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.

This is a Vundo infection and the best tool we can use at this point is combofix. Please understand if you are going to use removable media to bring it to the infected computer, the download is at least 2.53 MB's so make sure you have enough room for the download. When you install it on the infected computer, make sure it is installed to the Desktop. Here are the directions:

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop.

Download ComboFix from Here to your Desktop
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

Thanks for helping me I appreciate it. I have run combofix and have the two new logs that you asked for.

I assume that your last msg is a standard warning to not use combofix on your own.. I just wanted to let you know I had read that and have not run it before you asked me to.

That link that you gave me about updating java did you want me to do that or was it only a suggestion to make my computer more secure. I plan on doing that after I get this fixed I just wanted to know if you needed me to do that right away.

Thanks for returning your information, the Java link at Safer Networking should have contained a link to get the download, but I can tell you from experience with others, it can be hard to update when the program is as old a version as yours. I can offer you this tool:
http://raproducts.org/ but using it is at your own risk.
You can update Java when you wish, but if you read the information, if you go online and surf the web, hackers will exploit the old version to infect you.

Looks like combofix did an excellant job for you, the HJT log appears to be clean of malware. Let's check a little more like this.

1) Run Clean Manager
http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/cleanmgr/

2) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

3) If all is running as it should, this will be the next step:

Review that information to understand Recovery Console. Installation is optional but if you do not have the CD's needed, as is explained, it can be installed before we remove combofix.

If you install RC, post the C:\*CF-RC.txt*.

All done things are better.

The recovery console for windows that makes backups and such... I don't think I need it I have a thinkpad rescue and recovery thing in my laptop. Aren't they the same kind of program. I would think they would conflict if I had them both.

The computer is running alot better now I am now using my own on the internet and things are very much improved I downloaded the maleware program and cleaned my pc the malware recorded 24 vundo infections though I removed them.. the log is below..

If you do not wish to install the tool, then we will move on.

Remove combofix from your computer like this:
Click START then RUN
Now type or copy Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Clean infected System Restore files like this:
Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
