Sorry your still having issues. Lets do a few more things.

Please download SuperAntiSpyware
Install the program
  • Run SuperAntiSpyware and click: Check for updates
  • Once the update is finished, on the main screen, click: Scan your computer
  • Check: Perform Complete Scan
  • Click Next to start the scan.
Superantispyware scans the computer, and when finished, lists all the infections found.
Make sure everything found has a check next to it, and press: Next
Then, click Finish

It is possible that the program asks to reboot in order to delete some files.

Obtain the SuperAntiSpyware log as follows:
  • Click: Preferences
  • Click the Statistics/Logs tab
  • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SuperAntiSpyware Scan Log
It opens in your default text editor (such as Notepad)

Please provide the SuperAntiSpyware log in your reply, as well as a new HijackThis log.





Run Panda's ActiveScan and perform a full system scan.
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button
  • A new window will open...click the big "Check Now" button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
  • If you are on a slow connection it will take about 15 minuites for the scanner to load.
  • Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
  • Once scan is done, click "see report" then "save report"
  • Save the log someplace you can find
  • Reboot
  • Post the Panda scan results in your next reply


Post the Panda report, the SAS report and a new HJT log please

To restore the backups:
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on "View the list of Backups"
  • Place a check mark next to anything you want to restore
  • Click Restore
  • Click Yes
  • Reboot your computer

Yeah i can remove that sky broad band thing as I never use it anyway, I actually unistalled that some time ago!

When I click firefox icon on my desktop, the browser window opens, but with 2 tabs. The front tab takes my to http://www.weblog.com/Mozilla instead of my home page which is http://www.google.co.uk/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official

the other tab is titled 404: page not found, the web link is

Lets make sure your Hosts Files are not corrupted.

Download HostsXpert v 4.0
  • Unzip HostXpert to your desktop
  • Open up the HostXpert program.
  • Make sure that the "Make Hosts Writable?" button in the upper right corner is enabled.
  • Click Create Back Up
  • Then click on Restore Microsoft's Host Files
  • Close the HostXpert program

You have Spybot Search and Destroy installed, open the program, check for updates and run a full scan removing all it finds. Make sure you have it set up this way.

  • During Installation, just follow all the defaults.
  • Go to Mode and click on Advanced Mode
  • Then to Updates Search for Updates
  • If you get a Bad Checksum Error, just choose a different download location.
  • Then to Settings/ File Sets and take the checkmark out of Usage Tracks
  • Then to Tools/ Hosts Files click on Add Spybot S&D Hosts Files.
  • Then to Tools/ IE Tweeks and put a checkmark in Lock the Hosts Files
  • Then to Immunize. Up at the top by the GREEN SIGN, click on Immunize.
  • Then to Search and Destroy/ Check for Problems
  • Let it scan your system
  • Then to Fix Problems and fix all it finds.
  • Reboot your computer.
 
Regretfully firefox still doesn't open at my homepage. Do you think its worth a try uninstalling firefox, then reinstalling it?

Also, after each reboot I get 'AIDMON MFC APPLICATION' encountered problems and needs to close

I think this is something to do with my DSLMON modem?

Its quite possible that the problem your having is related to your ISP service or your modem. It looks like Firefox is not finding the modem or visa versa.

Hi Ken

I've uninstalled firefox but after reboot, still that that dam ADIMON MFC message!

PC seems to be running OK, just frustrating I get this message at start up.

Another option is to contact your ISP and tell them about the error your getting and maybe they can replace the modem, or even run you through some tests to make sure its working ok.


Why don't you post in one of these windows support sites as this forum is for removing malware so this is as far as I can go.

Ken, i'm wondering if some of the spyware programs may have caused the issues with exe files? This is the problem I'm having with several things, newsrover, dslmon. mozilla etc, do you know of any registry cleaner programs I can trust? I've download a couple ran the free scan which reports hundreds of errors. Most are asking me to pay to fix these errors? Appreciate your comments.

Why don't you post a new HJT log and lets see if there is anything we can prevent from starting when windows starts.

You can run CCleaner, it does have a scan to clean the registry. The Cleaner is safe to run, but the issues scan that cleans your registry can cause an issue if it removes the wrong entry, if you do this its your call to run, if you do you need to follow the instructions and back up the registry before you run the issues scan.

Myself, there are a few reg cleaners around but I have always been a bit warry of them.

Also do this before you run the Issues scan. Create a new restore point with the Windows System Restore program.


Create a new Restore Point <-- Very Important

  • Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Performance and Maintenance/ System Restore/ Create a New Restore Point
    You need to go into the Control Panel and switch to Catagory View to be able to Create a New Restore Point
System Restore Tutorial <-- If you need it



Download CCleaner from here to clean temp files from your computer.
  • Double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
  • Select your language and click OK, then next.
  • Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
  • Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.
  • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • On the "Windows" tab, under "Internet Explorer," uncheck "Cookies" if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
  • If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
  • Click on the "Options" icon at the left side of the window, then click on "Advanced."
    deselect "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours."
  • Click on the "Cleaner" icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.
  • Caution: It is not recommended that you use the "Issues" feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.
  • After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.
*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders. If you have anything in a temp folder, back it up or move it to a permanent folder prior to running CCleaner!
 
OK ran the Ccleaner again, but didn't fix the issue. There are several programs which aren't running VLC media player, WinAVI MP4 converter, i also use newsrover for movie/music downloads, when i try to open i get 'newsrover.exe contains an invalid path. i'm sure this is all linked to the issue i was having with firefox homepage if you remember? I think what I would do is to uninstall and then re install these programs.

NewsRover
VLC media player
WinAVI MP4 converter

Also uninstall Firefox if its giving you issues.

I am not looking at any malware on your system, this really appears to be a windows issue so you will have to post in a windows support site.
