Is it worth using version 1.5 yet?

Most PCs I used version 1.4 on had an issue with Teatimer where the buttons were displayed in awkward positions, so that you were unable to read the text. I've noticed 1.5 is now available, and am hoping this issue is now fixed. Otherwise I will stick with 1.3
 
Does version 1.4 have to be removed before installing 1.5?

no it doesnt HAVE to be removed....

but i would recommend it. ether way is not going to hurt your computer.
