Malware attack (worried about consequences)

Left my laptop with my dad for a month. Big mistake. Since getting it back I've done a scan with spybot and malwarebyte's anti-malware, and removed the problems they found. But it seems like the malware erased much of my hardrive.

I tried to get back the files with Restoration, but it looks like I don't have access to the C drive. I couldn't figure out how to zip the Attach file with my current restrictions, but I have it saved to desktop if it needs to be posted.

Windows Live OneCare is not supported anymore so it can be uninstalled.

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

Hi again,

Uninstall old Adobe Reader versions and get the latest one ((Adobe Reader X + 10.0.1 update for it)) here or get Foxit Reader here. Make sure you don't (unless you want to) install toolbar if choose Foxit Reader! You may also check free readers introduced here.

Uninstall vulnerable Flash versions by following instructions here. Fresh version can be obtained here.

Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u25-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version. Uncheck Carbonite online backup trial if it's offered there.

Click Start
When asked, allow the activex control to install
Click Start
Make sure that the option Remove found threats is UNchecked.

It's not letting me download or install anything in my C drive now. Message pops up saying I don't have administrator privileges, although my user account has me listed as an administrator.

But it worked earlier after CF run, right? Does it let you to download files to your desktop? See if you're able to download to your desktop and then launch installer from there.

Yes, it did work earlier after CF. But after the reboot and DDS run, I can no longer download to the C drive.

I did download the installer to the desktop, but it wouldn't let me extract the file to the c drive.

Hi,

Download this tool to your desktop. Once the program has been downloaded, double-click on the Unhide.exe icon on your desktop and allow the program to run. This program will remove the +H, or hidden, attribute from all the files on your hard drives. If there are any files that were purposely hidden by you, you will need to hide them again after this tool is run.

Let me know if that made any effect on your system.

Have you tried downloading the tools with more than one browser?

Hi Blade,

Sorry about the delay in the reply. I have just gotten back to my home with my laptop, and connected it to my ethernet. I've downloaded and run the tool, but I'm still unable to download to the C: drive. I've also tried downloading from internet explorer in addition to my default of firefox, but I've not had any success.

Hi,

What happens if you try to save to location mentioned in that question (by clicking "yes")? If you start Firefox by right clicking Firefox icon and selecting "run as administrator" do you still get that message?
