Malware Denies Access to Administrator

Drewski

New member
I am the sole user of my computer and the Admin.
Malware has eliminated my ability to act as the Admin on the system even though I am still listed as the Admin.
A new account with Admin privileges also failed to work.

SpyBot located
WIN32.Banker.fgv in
C:\WINNT\system32\IEDFIX.exe
and removed it, but I am afraid it resurfaces at startup.

Below is the HJT log. Please help.

Hi,

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

Hi Blade,
Because of the lag between the time I posted the HJT log and your initial response, I was able to remove the lock on the admin account but I still think I have a problem because the hard drive runs for minuts afer I boot into windows. Most of the time I am running the system in safe mode.
Here is the last combofix file I ran.

Hi,

You need to reinstall Windows sp3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall Windows service pack 3 there. If that went fine, reinstall sp3 (you should get it from Windows Update).

When I go to add/remove programs and the SP3 install, there is no "remove" option offered. What do you suggest?

Hi,

That would require that all updates installed after sp3 were removed. Let's skip that for now to see if we can manage without doing that.

Please reboot the system into normal mode. Click->start->run->type services.msc and press enter. Check the state of cryptographic services service. Is its status as started and startup type as automatic?

Ok. Please run ComboFix again in normal mode and post back the resultant log.

Hi,

ComboFix was once again run in safe mode with networking. Could you run it in normal mode?

Hi,

It was stated in the log. Anyway, if you were in normal mode then I need you to run a check.

Download & extract this file to it's own folder - Registry Search

Launch Registry Search
In the search box, enter (on separate lines)

SafeBoot\Option
Session Manager\Environment

Under
Search
, make sure only the
Value
box is checked in the first row of checkboxes. All other checkboxes should be checked.

& click
Ok
.
Notepad will open with some text in it (the file will also be saved in the program's folder as well).
Post this text in your next reply.

Always in normal mode unless specifically stated otherwise.

It's extensive operation and may take some time (and may look like program doesn't respond anymore). Please let it run without doing anything else with the system meanwhile. If it hasn't finished then let me know.
