You could try to reinstall sound drivers. If that doesn't work it's likely better to open a topic on issue at forum that has area for this kind of issues too. One such forum would be Tech Support Guy.
 
Sound Issue

Hi,
Yes. I will follow your advice. I noticed today that I can't play mp3 files on Windows Media player. It says I'm missing the codec for it. Plus, when I boot up the opening sound doesn't play anymore. Looks like I'm missing something crucial.
