I am not sure what to do with the "Windows File Missing" this is still coming. Do you think the system is clean enought to install sp3?

hi aditya369,

you mean this message, correct?
Windows File Protection
still appears at reboot. you ran system file checker? start>run and type in sfc/scannow there is a space after the c and before the /
it will make sure a windows core file hasnt been over written.
other than that logs look good, nothing left but some clean up to do.

Hi Shelf Life,

yes I meant "Windows File Protection" message. Sorry for the confusion.

I ran "sfc /scannow" prior to AVG anti-virus caught an infection and cleaned up in "C:\Documents and Settings\Venkata Vedantham\Application Data\Microsoft\dtsc\27184.exe" file.

When I ran the sfc /scannow, it completed successfully. When I rebooted it is executing again. I will try executing this again and see if this makes any difference.

Thanks for all your help. Do I need to perform any other steps for cleanup?

hi,

your welcome. the clean up: you can uninstall combofix like this:
start>run and type in combofix /u, click ok
note: there is a space after the x and before the /
the sdfix folder can be deleted from its default install location (C:\)
and the original downloaded self-installing archive from your desktop.

Hi Shelf Life,

I uninstalled combofix.

I ran the Kaspersky online virus scan... can you please have a look at the log..

I disabled AVG anit-virus during Kaspersky online scan.... I later ran the AVG on that speicific folder and it cleaned them up.

My ISP is providing mcafee security suite for free, i am planning to install it and do a complete scan once. do you have any other suggestion?

hi aditya369,

My ISP is providing mcafee security suite for free,
ok then you should also uninstall AVG. only need one AV.
you could also do a online scan here if you want:

ESET online scanner:

http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/

uses Internet Explorer only
check "YES" to accept terms
click start button
allow the ActiveX component to install
click the start button. the Scanner will update.
check both "Remove found threats" and "Scan unwanted applications"///or # Do Not check the box Remove found threats
click scan
when done you can find the scan log at:C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
please copy/paste that log in next reply.
