NTLDR missing, possibly corrupt due to virus threat

i did that and then typed it in, pressed enter, then a message came up saying 'windows cannot find systempropertiesprotection.exe, make sure you type the name correctly and try again'.

I noticed my mistake with instructions and modified them. Please try modified ones.

Hi,

Right click C:\WINDOWS\inf\sr.inf file select "install" and follow the prompts.

i clicked install and then a message comes up saying 'the file sr.sys on windows xp home edition service pack 3 is needed'.

'type the path where the file is located, and then click OK'

'copy files from: C:\WINDOWS\inf\i386 with a browse button next to it.

im not exactly sure what it means.

Hi,

Try to point it look from C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder if looking from C:\WINDOWS\inf\i386 doesn't work.

i looked up C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386. it found 2 folders both named i386 and where it says underneath In Folder C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles and C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\ServicePackCache

When it asks for sr.sys path please point it to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers folder and click ok. Let me know if that works.

Sorry but I work via forums only. Please see if you're able to access system restore by clicking:
start->all programs->accessories->system tools->system restore

yes im able to get to system restore through the start menu. i selected system restore and it comes up saying Welcome to System Restore.

there are two options that you can choose 'restore my computer to an earlier time' or 'create a restore point'

Ok. So system restore isn't completely dead. Please try once more to right click C:\WINDOWS\inf\sr.inf file and select install.

When it asks you to browse to location where files should be copied from, click browse and point it to C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder. It should be able to find correct version there.

If there's problem I need to see a screenshot of the situation.

Hi,

Copy-paste C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 in the combobox field shown in screenshot 1 and then click ok.

Copy-paste C:\Windows\System32\Restore in the combobox field.
