NTLDR missing, possibly corrupt due to virus threat

After reboot see if system restore tab is still missing.

yes, its still missing. the only tabs are there is General and Shortcut.
the only way i can get to it is through the start menu and it has those two options, but im not sure which one to select.

Hi,

It sounds that you have shortcut to My Computer instead of real My Computer on your desktop. Let's fix that.

Right click an empty area of your desktop. Choose Properties>> Desktop tab>> Customize Desktop button>> General tab.

Place a checkmark next to My Computer and accept changes. That should bring proper My Computer icon to your desktop.

finally that worked. i can see the system restore tab. but what should i do with the other My Computer icon? should i just leave it there?

You can delete that (just make sure you don't accidentally delete wrong icon ). You may now follow those other steps outlined in that post #18 of this topic.

i have carried out the instructions in post 18.
but i use firefox, not internet explorer. but i still get automatic updates which i do download. is there anything else i need to do?

For Firefox I recommend these addons:
Adblock Plus, WOT and NoScript

oh yeah i forgot to ask, do those purple circled question marks next to google search results mean they are the bad sites?

Hi,

Those are sites that haven't had enough rates from users to show whether the site is good or bad. Such sites should be treated with caution.

Any other issues or shall we see the case as closed?
