Number of things.

I connect via a router, although none of my roommates have experienced any issues with the net.

When I boot up my computer it asks if I want to install the driver needed and when say yes it just stops and says it can't install it.

Is this router yours or is it installed on someone else's system ? What I mean by that are you trying to access the internet using someone elses router or are they accessing the internet using your router ?

Not sure I understand, sorry.

I am a college student and when I moved in my landlord said the wireless internet is ready and should be usable right away. Me and my roommates have never have a problem with access until my computer started messing up. All my roommates still have fine access though.

Not a problem, I was not sure if you installed a router with your system and your roommates where using it or if you where trying to connect to someone else's router ( which you are ) Then from what you describing is that the router is ok , its just your system.

Try running this program and if does not work than I will link you to a windows forum that can help you as we just do malware removal on this one.

Just run it, reboot and see if it helped
Winsockxpfix

When I start the program on my computer, it says that it is not compatible (must be because I am using vista not xp) and it gives two options:

1) Find updates (which I can't do because I can't access the internet)

2) Run the program anyway

Is it safe to run the program?

Good Morning,

No, lets hold off on it for now. This is what I would like you to do, all us forums work together so post in this site for network problems and they can get you up and running, feel free to link them to this thread and tell them you where being helped here and they can look through the thread and see what we have done.

This site like Safer is free but you will need to register

Good Luck,

Ken
