PC infected with SelectionLinks

That OTL entry is just a back up of what we previously removed.

See if you can follow this path and if ERUNT is in the Startup folder just delete it

Enable windows to show all files and folders
Go to Start > Control Panel > Folder Options > View and click on the radio button that allows you to see hidden files and folders

For an individual user:
C:\users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

For all users:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Let me know how it went, I currently dont have ERUNT on the computer I am on but I have had a few other posters complain about this and I am going to ask around

ERUNT AutoBackup shortcut was in the individual Startup File. It pointed to "C:\_OTL\MovedFiles\01272013_181208\C_Program Files (x86)\ERUNT\AUTOBACK.EXE" %SystemRoot%\ERDNT\AutoBackup\#Date# /noconfirmdelete /noprogresswindow

There was nothing in the other startup folder.

Ok, make sure you deleted it from the ndividual Startup File

Let me ask around and see whats going on with this. Be back soon

Comodo, good choice, I have never been a big fan of AVG and remember back when ZoneAlarm was a good program.

Open OTL and click on Clean Up and it will remove programs we used to clean your system along with there backups, any programs that where not removed you can just drag to the trash.

Malwarebytes is the free version and yours to keep and will not be removed

Ran OTL clean up & rebooted.
Created system restore point.
Read your links. Some are on the older side--most refer to XP.
WhattheTech link is invalid.

The WTT link worked for me, Operating Systems evolve so fast, I guess i need to sit down this weekend and go over my suggestions, we still have tons of people post that are still using XP.

When I got my first computer many years ago (Win 95 ) it came with McAfee and did nothing but give me headaches, I am sure they have gotten better but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Norton is a love hate relationship, you either lover or hate it, myself, have Norton Internet Security on 3 of my systems and they run with no problems whatsoever . So its your call, just remember that more than one AV is overkill and can cause problems, Microsoft recommends just one, keep it updated and run regular scans. If you wanted to go the free route I have Microsoft Security Essentials on one my systems and it runs just fine also. The same thing goes for a firewall, just one so if you go with McAfee or Norton if you keep Comodo just get the stand alone AV.

Take care,

Hm. This is what I get:
Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.
The error returned was:
Sorry, the link that brought you to this page seems to be out of date or broken.

I loved XP.

I had exactly the same experiences with McAfee & Norton! I also remember trying to get rid of McAfee and it kept coming back. I had a beast of a time getting rid of it.

Chose to try Comodo after reading this in the stickies in this forum:
http://www.matousec.com/projects/proactive-security-challenge-64/results.php The whole firewall/antivirus thing seems to be constantly evolving. I'll have to review my choices more often, not just when I get a new computer. (I update constantly, but don't think about changing.) If I'm not happy with Comodo, I'll definitely try your suggestions next.

Ken, you ROCK!!! It's been a pleasure working with you. Thank you so very, very much for your patience, expertise and commitment!

 .... :thanks: ....

Thanks for the kind words :)

Allmost all vendors have a removal tool for there product, what you do , let say AVG, uninstall it via Programs and Features in the Control Panel and then run there removal tool to remove what windows did not

Here's is one site that you can download it from

Another good option in lew of Programs and Features is to download the free version of Revo Uninstaller, it gives you the option to remove the reg entries as well

No problem. Just tell me where to mail the cookies! :oreo: :)

I'm familiar with the removal tools. McAfee kept coming back and saying it had been deactivated (when you thought you had completely removed it) and "Your computer is not protected!" Each time you would shut down, it would reinstall itself. Endless popups urged you to reactivate or reinstall. We were just talking about it the other day. Others had the same experience and it put us all off of ever trying it again.

I'm definitely going to try this!

Well, hello. Comodo just gave me a message that it put a program called Coupon Companion in its sandbox. Isn't that the program you initially thought suspicious? I looked under Programs and Features and there it is again, installed yesterday. How about that.

Go to Program and Features and see if you can uninstall it, or use Revo Uninstaller, then reboot, and see if Comodo picks it up again, it may be just a leftover entry, but we can check

Yes, that uninstalled it and Revo doesn't list it. Interestingly, it doesn't list AVG either, although that is definitely in the programs file.
