Please help: IE and Firefox redirects

I tried to remove the item by checking and fixing again but the results was unfortunately the same. It is still showing up in the log (attached below).

  • Click on the Scan button
  • Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):

    O23 - Service: Symantec Lic NetConnect service (CLTNetCnService) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSvcHst.exe (file missing)
  • Close all open windows and browsers/email etc...
  • Click on the Fix Checked button
  • When completed close the application.

Please copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the following text in the quote to Notepad. Save it as "All Files" and name it FixServices.bat Please save it on your desktop.

Yes. The firewall is still off from when combofix was run. I uninstalled AVG at the same time because combofix kept warning me that it was on and I couldn't figure out how to convince the program that it was off. Since I need to install a new AV what free program do you recommend? I am leaning toward avast.

Update Adobe Reader
It looks like your version of Adobe Reader is out of date and you're vulnarable for infections.
Please download the newest version here:

Install it, then go to Add Remove Programs and remove any older versions that may remain.

To remove all of the tools we used and the files and folders they created do the following:

Delete SecurityCheck.exe from your desktop

  • Double-click OTM.exe.
  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Disable and Enable System Restore-WINDOWS XP
This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:

  • Turn off System Restore-Vista
  • Click the Vista/Start icon.
  • Right Click >> Computer
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Protection tab.
  • Uncheck All drives
  • Click Turn Off System Restore at the prompt then click Apply.
  • Restart your computer.
Turn ON System Restore-Vista
  • Click the Vista/Start icon
  • Right Click >> Computer
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Protection tab.
  • Checkmark All drives that were selected previously then click Apply.
Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.

MVPS Hosts File from here
The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.

Thank you so much for your help! My wife has been going insane without her laptop and this will make her weekend. Her Norwegian cousins are coming to thanksgiving this year and since I doubt you'll be around I'll buy them a few rounds in your honor.

Sorry to bother you again but I am having one more minor problem. IE won't let me set anything other than msn as my start page. I switch it to google but when I open the program again it goes back to msn. It's weird and annoying.
