Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

This is likely a Vundo infection and it has gotten tough to remove so do not expect easy. You have other issues also.
Read and follow the directions carefully, you may wish to print them, stay in the numbered order. I this works for you then let's do this.

1) You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly. Uninstall one, update the one you keep and run a complete system scan, post for me any item that can't be removed, the complete name and pathway.

"Microsoft recommends that you have only one anti-virus program installed on your computer."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/03/AR2005120300087.html
http://www.smartcomputing.com/editorial/article.asp?article=articles/2003/s1407/38s07/38s07.asp

C:\Program Files\Eset\
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\
Uninstall one of those

2) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

3) TeaTimer will block changes we must make, use these instruction to turn it off until we are done.
http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm

4) Hackers hide the infection from HJT, return to here:
C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe <<< rename HijackThis.exe, call it MrsB.exe that will work.

5) Stay offline except when troubleshooting, this junk may download more.

6) Be patient, the fix may not find the infection right away, run it again.

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

Please understand these hackers can call there junk anything they wish. Vundofix may not know the files at first, but it will learn. You want to run the fix until you see all Vundo files say: "Has been deleted"

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.

On a side note, You said that I have 2 anti-virus progs running but I remember uninstalling symantec when I first installed esset. Tried to find it in the add/remove but it is no longer listed there.. Is it possible to have uninstalled it and it has not fully removed all evidence of it on my pc?

Thanks again.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, you asked:
Is it possible to have uninstalled it and it has not fully removed all evidence of it on my pc?
O23 - Service: Symantec Lic NetConnect service (CLTNetCnService) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSvcHst.exe
O23 - Service: Symantec Core LC - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe
These services are left, you can give this tool a try if you wish:
Use the Norton Removal Tool to remove a failed installation or a damaged Norton product.

If that does not work, we will try something else.

Good job so far:bigthumb: stick with me a while longer, Vundo does not want to go.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Make sure AVG Anti-Spyware and TeaTimer are both still turned off!

(this part is very important, read and follow the directions carefully)

4) Open Vundofix by Doubleclicking on it, then point your mouse to the white box above the buttons and right click, then click on Add More Files. When the next window opens, copy and paste the files into the boxes and click on Add File(s), then click on Close Window. Then click Remove Vundo.

These are the files to remove:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\getoytfo.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cpojjile.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\heyslynv.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbfugkcg.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dwfyespy.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\egknjron.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xaxcukvh.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xkxxfyfm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\iqpnujme.exe
C:\windows\system32\ljjggdd.dll

You will only be able to add six at a time so do it twice.

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5EBDDF4C-67C1-4A96-A4AA-44A264CDAD86} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvtu.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [4cfcc498] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\getoytfo.dll",b
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winabf32 - winabf32.dll (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\getoytfo.dll <<< delete that file if there

7) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post that Vundofix report and a new HJT log. Please add any comments you think will help and indicate how the computer is running.

Thanks

Thanks for returning your information, Vundofix seems to have had a problem with this file:
C:\windows\system32\ljjggdd.dll Could not be deleted.
Would you make sure all files and folder are enabled:
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

Then use search companion to search for that file, let me know what is found. Allow a little time, lots of files to search through, I want to be positive it is gone.

Run Vundofix and use the Add Files feature again and add this one:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqo.dll

Then use HJT to remove this line
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {47026FAD-595C-48EB-AE0C-55783A3B8D6A} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqo.dll

You still are showing this service:
O23 - Service: Symantec Core LC - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe
Let's disable that service.

Disable the Service
Click Start > Run and type services.msc
Scroll down to Symantec Core LC and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

Post the Vundofix report and a new HJT log.

I believe I said Vundo was a pain to remove, some new varieties I am seeing are much worse.

How is the computer running? Post any other comments you think will help.

Thanks...Phil

The Folder search found the following files:

ljjggdd.dll.bad - C:\VundoFix Backups
ljjggdd.dll - C:\WINDOWS\system32

Disabled Symantec and overall the computer is running fine. I get the odd Esset alert to say that I have an unwanted threat on my pc but it hasnt affected the use of the PC at all. Not extremely slow etc and the pop ups when browsing are not persistent.

Just know that there are things on here that shouldn't be and thats they only problem really. :)

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback.

ljjggdd.dll.bad - C:\VundoFix Backups <<< delete that backup folder

ljjggdd.dll - C:\WINDOWS\system32 << this will be this >> C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljjggdd.dll it must be deleted.

Until be delete that file, which appears to be creating new files, we have problems.

Let's give this a try, this time watch the report, we must get all three of these files to say "has been deleted". run it a couple of times if you have two.

Open Vundofix by Doubleclicking on it, then point your mouse to the white box
above the buttons and right click, then click on Add More Files. When the
next window opens, copy and paste the files into the boxes and click on Add
File(s), then click on Close Window. Then click Remove Vundo.

(files to add)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljjggdd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqq.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hemrtojs.dll

You can also boot to safe mode and try to delete those files there. Let's hope we are not dealing with a hidden rootkit.

Post the new HJT Log and some feedback.

I have run vundofix numerous times over the last couple of days and that one file wont budge. Keep getting multiple alerts about threats in Esset. Where to from here?

Thanks

It appears Vundofix was updated during our work and the version you have is old: VundoFix V6.6.1. This new varity of Vundo is very difficult and the Vundofix creator updated to help us. What happens is, if you don't kill all of the junk it morphs and returns and you are still infected. I would like you to delete Vundofix completely from your computer, then download and run version 6.6.2 according to these instructions.

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

http://vundofix.atribune.org/ <<< tutorial

"Download VundoFix" to your Desktop

http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
When VundoFix opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
*****Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.*****
In this case, VundoFix will attempt run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click
the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.
Vundofix.txt will be on the C:\

Post the Vundofix.txt and a new HJT log

Thanks
