Hi gang,

So I came to use my computer the other day and I had a webpage up and couldn't navigate away from it. The mouse would move but I couldn't close it or click start menu or anything. I couldn't ctrl-alt-del, or anything else with the keyboard. I tried unplugging and replugging in the USB cable but this did nothing. I rebooted the pc a couple of times. I could use F2 to enter setup and navigate within that, I could use F12 to access the boot menu, and navigate within that. I could also hit F10 (or F8, don't recall) to enter the menu to select Safe Mode. Once in safe mode I could ctrl-alt-del to login and I am able to type with the keyboard. I can access the internet and there seems to be no issues.

So, I wondering if anyone is able to theorize what may be happening and ideally what steps I can take to resolve the issue. I will say that I had gone into the system restore tool and selected a date that I believed to be working without issues, but it did not work. I will try a date further back and post if any changes.

Thanks for reading.

Sam

Shoot, I guess I should specify some of the details of the computer. It's a Dell Optiplex 760 running Windows XP SP2.

Hello sucosam,

Same as last time ;) a log is necessary if you believe this to be a malware issue, which should be copy pasted into a new topic.

"BEFORE you POST"(READ this Procedure BEFORE Requesting Assistance)

In that case,
Please do NOT turn off System Restore trying to remove an infection. Doing so would only serve to destroy a known restore point (dirty or not) and won't remove the malware. Let your helper advise you as to when a System Restore flush is called for.
Best regards. :)
