Problem with my explorer.exe

Hey I have a problem with my computer's explorer.exe. Every time i turn log into windows the explorer shuts down. I try going to task manager and running explorer.exe and it just runs for a few seconds and shuts down again. I tried the same thing again but only in safe mode, and the same thing happened. While im in safe mode these are my running processes:

rmass.exe
taskmgr.exe
rmass.exe
svchost.exe
svchost.exe
svchost.exe
lsass.exe
services.exe
winlogon.exe
xsrss.exe
smss.exe
System
System Idle Process

Can someone please help me into fixing this problem? I have so many important, personal files and I strongly do not wish to format.
