Virtumonde.generic is back also seem to have sec.toolbar.k and conhook.hl. Now idea where from haven't been on any dodgy sites or dowloaded or received files. Have reposted but no responses yet.

I did not get an email notification that you posted because you started a new thread instead of replying in this one.

Your HJT log is fine :bigthumb: What Kaspersky found where all the bad files and entries that we removed with the various tools.

• Go to Start > Run and copy and paste ComboFix /u into the box
• Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
• Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.


C:\QooBox <-- Delete this , its backups that Combofix made.

C:\VundoFix Backups <-- Delete this also

C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles<-- This too


System Restore <--All the bad stuff we removed is backed up in System Restore, you need to flush this out and create a new Restore Point, it was listed on one of the things to do that I posted after your clean.

System Restore makes regular backups of all your settings, if you ever had to use this program to restore your system to a previous date, you will be infected all over again so we need to clean out the previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore.

• Right-click My Computer.
• Click Properties.
• Click the System Restore tab.
• Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
• Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot your computer


Turn ON System Restore.

• Right-click My Computer.
• ClickProperties.
• Click the System Restore tab.
• UN-Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
• Click Apply, and then click OK.

Create a new Restore Point <-- Very Important

• Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Performance and Maintenance/ System Restore/ Create a New Restore Point
  You need to go into the Control Panel and switch to Catagory View to be able to Create a New Restore Point

So sorry for the confusion. I paniced as i ran spybot as startup had slowed to a crawl again and it found virtumondo.generic. It looks like a registry message.So I didnt know what to do for the best so posted a fresh message, but after a couple of hours I thought maybe I should have treid this thread.
I really do appreciate your help again and sorry I missed a part oops!
I've deleted qoobox, vundo & Ot as you said. But I cannot seem to uninstall combo. I do as you say and all it does is run combo again. And yes I've made sure there was a space.
Any more suffestion?

Done It

Sorry Ken have now managed to uninstall combo. I clicked on where it was said the program was blocked as it was from another pc, and unblocked it. Did the start run thing and it uninstalled straight away.

Start up is very slow again but have rescanned with spybot in safe mode and virtumonde generic has gone again.

No need to run Spybot on startup, just run it every week or so when you have time.

To be on the safeside, after removing all I said and doing a system restore, run Kaspersky again and post the log along with a new HJT log and lets make sure nothing has returned.

Hi Alison,

It looks like that bad file is in your temp folder.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.

• This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
• Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
• Under Main choose: Select All
• Click the Empty Selected button.

Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up



Nothing else bad on the Kaspersky log or your HJT log.


Run this program, its the free version and yours to keep, post the report.

Please download and install AVG Anti-Spyware Free to your desktop.

• Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
• Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG and update the definition files.
• On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
• Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
• Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
• Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <-- Dont forget this
• Under Reports
• Select Automatically generate report after every scan
• Un-Select Only if threats were found <-- Don't forget this
• Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
• AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
• Once the scan is complete do the following:
• If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
• Next select the Reports icon at the top.
• Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system <--Don't forget this
• make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important, I need to see that log.
• Close AVG Anti-Spyware Free

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

• Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
• When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post the Combofix log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

How are ya doing? All AVG found was an entry in a HJT backup, Combofix found nothing bad and your log is looking great.:bigthumb:

Open HJT and go to View the List of Backups and check whatever is in there and delete them.

• Go to Start > Run and copy and paste ComboFix /u into the box
• Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
• Then hit enter.

What you can do is download run Spybot Search and Destroy, go to Help> About and make sure its version 1.5.1, if you have the earlier version 1.4, uninstall it via the Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Here are instructions and the link to the new version, what you want to do is check for updates and run a full scan removing everything it finds ( you may see some reference to Vundo, don't be alarmed as these are useless reg entries ) after you run a scan, reboot and run another scan and it should come up clean. I do not need to see a report.


Download and install Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5.1

If you have the older version 1.4, remove it via the Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

• During Installation, just follow all the defaults.
• Go to Mode and click on Advanced Mode
• Then to Updates Search for Updates
• If you get a Bad Checksum Error, just choose a different download location.
• Then to Settings/ File Sets and take the checkmark out of Usage Tracks
• Then to Tools/ Hosts Files click on Add Spybot S&D Hosts Files.
• Then to Tools/ IE Tweeks and put a checkmark in Lock the Hosts Files
• Then to Immunize. Up at the top by the GREEN SIGN, click on Immunize.
• Then to Search and Destroy/ Check for Problems
• Let it scan your system
• Then to Fix Problems and fix all it finds.
• Reboot your computer.

Your good to go, :bigthumb: but I am glad you were cautious and posted back.

Have done all except install spybot 1.5. For some reason it will not work on the laptop. I did have it installed but had to go back to 1.4. Even after the bug fixes.
