Should you run more than 1 AV?

Should you run more than 1 AV program? I'd like as much protection as possible. I know you should have only 1 firewall. Do these AVs scan and remove the viruses? Do you need to run something for malware or is that Spybot's job.

I have a million more questions, but will stop for now!!!

Hi bonthefarm,

Rule of thumb is one Anti Virus and one Firewall to avoid conflicts and loss of program efficiency. In this case more is definately not better.

Some people run an on-line anti virus scan every week or so.

You can install more than one antispyware program, however only one of them should have resident protection enabled.

Windows Firewall can't be uninstalled?

I have installed Comodo firewall, but could not uninstall Windows firewall. Read that it is built in to Windows and can't be removed? Is this true?

Please do not attempt to remove Windows native firewall, it needs to be 'disabled' if you are going to install a third party firewall. :)

First download the new firewall, don't install it yet.

Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Windows Firewall, and turn Windows Firewall off.

You will probably receive a warning that your security is at risk, this is a normal alert which should go away once the new FW is installed.

Install the new firewall, you will be asked to reboot.

Windows firewall

Hi Tashi!!!

I did turn Windows firewall off and then installed Comodo.

I also did what Blade said to do - installed Comodo boclean, ad aware, spyblaster. Going to add iespyad next and deciding on an antivirus. There's so many to choose from, I'm indecisive. Any of them better? I read that Aviva AntiVir is noted for its fast operation. Just want the best for my money! LOL

What does this mean?

I was installing Antivir, installed the workstation and when I tried to run the installation Boclean stopped it and said - This trojan horse program was found on your machine. It has been shut down, but the File from which it started still remains and can be started again. Do you want the file removed also?

I said no and now my computer is very slow. Is there a problem and should I continue to install this program?

That sounds like a false positive on the part of BOClean.

Could you disable BOClean for now please and go ahead with the anti virus installation as that is more important.

If you get confused please let us know.

I will take a look in the BOClean forums Saturday and see if there are any conflict reports.
 
Antivir installed, but.....

Hi Tashi! OK disabled boclean, installed AV, running scan, now the scan wants to know what I want done with C/Documents and Settings\...\ADBREAK 151.zip. Says it contains suspicious code HEUR/pwdZIP. I know it will ask me about alot of ADBREAKs, it did yesterday. I thought I might have messed it up yesterday, so I did a systems restore to when Blade said I had a clean system, and then I started over installing stuff. anyway, what should I answer about what to do with these files?
