I tried to remove these myself before posting here. Ran in safemode, scanned
with Housecall, AVG, Spybot and Ad-aware. Even tried a smitfraud remover
program recommended on another site. Maybe this was a mistake, but I hate wasting other people's time if I can help it so I tried to use what I found on the forums before asking for help. Nothing has worked and now I can not get into safemode I just get a blackscreen with safemode in the corners. I just ran vundo fix as posted about in another forum also which cleaned off what looked like a zillion files, and now shows no files left. I renamed my HijackThis.exe to HJT.exe too since I see it asked of everyone when posting, I hope this is ok, if not I will rename it back.

I really appreciate any help I can get, it's been a long two days without ability to work getting "alerts" and popups every friggin minute or two. :(

I tried to edit above to add, but couldn't so I am adding this.

I was finally able to run housecalls again without my system crashing or popups shutting it down. I said it cleaned the malware it found and that there were vulnerabilities on my system, but I was unable to find a way to post a log file of it. Am I missing something? Are there any other scans I should post a log file for?

No, I haven't posted at any other site. The vundo fix I got here (on the sticky for it), the smitfraud fix I read on one of the zillion boards I have been reading on how to get rid of smitfraud (I also saw it somewhere here as well). This is the first and only board I have posted to, not multiples.

OK Andrea and I apologize for not understanding what you said. Let's start from scratch, none of the tools we use update and must be downloaded at the point of use. The infections you talk about, Smitfraud and Vundo are tough to remove. They need to be removed in a certain order and often folks run tools that might the cleanup more difficult. I would appreciate it if you would delete all tools you downloaded (with the exception of AVG Anti-Spyware) I will use that again before you uninstall it (unless you own it) and we will go from there. I first need to make sure Smitfraud is gone (most of it is hidden), then we will move to other infections.

C:\Documents and Settings\Tyranny\Desktop\VundoFix.exe <<< remove this file from your computer

C:\Hijackthis\HJT.exe <<< rename this file, call it Andrea.exe or anything you like. I see BHO's that look like Vundo and no 020 corresponding, if it is hidden, it will show after a reboot.

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Thanks for the HJT log, no vundo present but a bunch of other junk. I have seen it installed as a rootkit, but I don't believe that is the case now. Let's do this:

Before we start, I am not seeing an active antivirus program running on this computer? I see a line that looks leftover from Symantec in the Services (023) If you no longer use Symantec you should probably remove that unless you know it is for something I am not aware of. If you need a free program, here is a good one: http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ If you download that one, stay with FREE do not download trials or paid products. Do not confuse this with AVG Anti-Spyware, they are two different programs that do two different things. Going online without an antivirus program anymore is cyber-suicide.

Instructions start here, please do them in the numbered order.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\kmgfvvbr.dll <<< delete that file if there

6) Run a scan with AVG Anti-Spyware, make sure to follow the directions in the link, delete or at least quarantine anything located and save the scan report to post.

7) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post the AVG Avti-Spyware scan results and a new HJT log. Let me know how the computer is running and add any comments you think will help.

Took a while for the AVG but here is what you requested. I am not getting anymore popups, which is nice and things seem to be back to normal. I am not using symantics anymore as you noted before, should I remove the lines referencing it in hijackthis?

Thanks for the feedback, and glad to hear you are back to normal. I'll make sure Symantec is of the computer. AVG is a good free program, set it and it will do the job for you and the price is right. I looked ahead and AVG Anti-Spyware found cookies, which you do not need to accumulate if you do not want to, see this information:

Disable the Service
Click Start > Run and type services.msc
Scroll down to Symantec Lic NetConnect service and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

Then I suggest you go here:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ <<< delete that folder.
That should take care of Symantec.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

Thank you for your time and help. I really appreciate it. I upgraded to JRE6 and removed 5 like you mentioned, I also removed the Symantec folder as you stated. I ran one last HJT just for the record :P

Thanks for the feedback and your kind words. You may also remove any tools we downloaded during the cleanup, the exception would be ATF-Cleaner. You may keep that nice little tool if you wish. Make sure you review the information from the experts, once AVG Anti-Spyware's trial is over (unless you plan to purchase it) you are going to need a good realtime anti-spyware program. The experts will make suggestions and here is a nice free program:

We know to run one antivirus program and one firewall but the jury is still out on how many spyware programs can be run at the same time. I will suggest you turn off AVG Anti-Spyware when you install another realtime program.
