I just downloaded Spybot (twice) and I get the icon expect it wont run when I click on it. Whats wrong?

Where did you download Spybot-SD from? In other words the source.

What is your OS?

Can you reboot the computer > Double click on it and wait for 15 seconds. Give it time. You should see Spybot's progress bar.
 
Thanks, it's XP pro on an older Sony laptop. I downloaded it from the main mirror on Spybots website. I did restart once, will try again.
 
I don't think it could be a RAM problem. Try to restart and double click on it. This starts Spybot fresh when there are no programs active, but with just background tasks.
 
Restart doesn't help, I click on icon and get an hourglass for about a half second and that's it, nothing happens... try it through the start menu also and same thing.
