spybot becomes non responsive at startup.

when I start up my comoputer spybot s&d starts a endless loop of actions where is denying changes to system regestry. box after box opens up denying changes to system regestery. this goes on forever. the only way to stop it is to use windows task manager to end the task. windowa then tells me spybot is a non responsive program. I have to end it through windows task manager. it shuts down the program. then next time I start up it dose the same thing all over. I suspect part of the program has become corrupt. do I need to uninstall and reinstall spybot s&d? oh I am running windows XP and I have had spybot running for 2 or so years now with no problems till now.

Do the boxes come up in the lower right hand corner saying the change was denied "according to your blacklist"?

no I do not think I have a blacklist. it usually just asks me if I want to allow a change to the regestry. and I say accept or not. now it is just opening box after box denying some regestry change. I would have to restart my computer to give you more info as to what regestry change it is blocking. I never payed much attention as it seemed to be malfunctioning.

I started the program from my desctop icon and it seems to be functioning I am now scanning for problems. is seems it is just the startup version that is causing the problem.

well I was running imunization and during the process Mcafee system guards service encountered a problem and had to shut down. I am not sure if my Mcafee program is messed up now. can these programs be conflicting with each other? now that I have run a system check and imunization I will try to restart my computer to see if the bug at start up continues to happen. I will let you know.

Don't worry,Spybot is not likely malfunctioning.The messages you get on startup are most likely coming from the resident Teatimer.I'll help you with that,but I'd like to have a peek at your resident log first.

Could you please do this,after you restart?Open Spybot,click mode,then advanced mode,then Tools,then click Resident.Over to the right,could you scroll down to the bottom of the list,highlight the last 30 or 40 lines or so,rightclick,select Copy,then paste it here.

yes it is still happening I will do that and post it next. I did right a few things down about the regestry being blocked. it is as falllows:

so it appears I do have this on my blacklist. I probably blocked this regestry change. I am not always sure what regestry changes I should block and which not. I will now fallow the stepps you mentioned and copy the results in my next response.
