Hi Shaba,

I've been trying Spybot now and it seems to be working just fine! It wasn't opening yesterday morning, but it has been opening and working fine all day today. I ran a scan and everything was fine.

Because I have a brand new machine, I dont mind re-formatting it, so is it worth it?

there is one issue:

my laptop keeps stalling when I try to shut it down - the screen goes blank and it stays on for about 5mins, before it finally shuts down.

I have tried Hewlett Packard Support and they said re-formatting is best option.

What do you think?

Hard to say as it can be hardware related as well.

i tried installing that program but it wouldn't let me - it keeps disrupting saying that it was unable to finish installation.

Shall I reformat and return the laptop to the retailer if it doesn't work? I still have warranty so can get my money back.

Yes it can be but it is then still a warranty issue as fan is not then sufficient.
