Spybot doesn't permanently get rid of Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888

New member
I run Spybot, it finds Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888, I remove it, run Spybot again, and it's back.

I have tried various methods I found; none worked - this is a forum I haven't tried. Any and all help appreciated.

Hi auntypizza

Use this link to get HijackThis.
Save it to your desktop and then double-click to run it.
It will install the program in c:\program files\HijackThis.
Browse to that location with windows explorer, rename HijackThis.exe to scanner.exe and double click on the scanner.exe program to run. Choose the 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'
That will allow you to save the log to the desktop (or some other place) and leave open a notepad file with the HijackThis log in it.

Now post your HijackThis log into this topic.

Hi

First we'll need to backup registry:

Start -> Run -> regedit -> ok. Then File -> Export. Give it a name and press Save.

Save text below as fix.reg on Notepad (save it as all files (*.*)) on Desktop

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UID]

It should look like this ->
reg.gif

Doubleclick fix.reg, press Yes and ok.

(In case you are unsure how to create a reg file, take a look here with screenshots.)

Reboot.

Re-scan with spybot

Post spybot report

Registry entry

Hi,

Was wondering about the registry entry - can u explain this bit to me. No point if I don't learn anything.

The entry is the same as the virtumonde entry - so what's the process happening here,

Thanks (in advance)
