Spybot S&D 1.6 and Win9x

Hi everyone,

I'd just installed Spybot S&D 1.6 under Windows 98SE.

It's working fine ! :)
No slow down, no freeze.
The new feature "Scan with Spybot" is also wonderful.

Tea Timer:
- Teatimer 1.6.0.20 is launching quickly, but using more than 90% of CPU (in Process Explorer)!
- An other problem is that when you shut it down from the systray, it is going on running (with no more icon in the systray). In Task Manager, there is the error message 'No answer', so, you can shut it down manuaaly (with no crash ;)

So I tried TeaTimer beta 1.6.1.21:
- Still using more than 90% of CPU, and same bug if you try to close it.
- With 'TeaTimer-scanmode_slow.reg', use 10% or less!!! ...and by the way the closing bug is gone! So far so good.
If I unload and then re-load it, Tea Timer has high CPU usage (> 90%) for 15 s. only (same thing when I launch a program).

Other bugs:
* the icons (symbols) at the beginning of the lines in the 'Immunization' window are broken.
See pic:
attachment.php

* the 'Scanner' window opens in very small size.

We would appreciate a top right corner button to maximalise it.

Thanks a lot.
Charles.

Something else:
I've no more the "Info Balloon" when I accept a change with Tea Timer :red:

'Show Info Balloons' is checked in right-click of Tea Timer ;
and I tried the 2 registry tweaks of Yodama I'd found in this thread:
Code:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"EnableBalloonTips"=dword:00000001
or
Code:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Safer Networking Limited\SpybotSnD\TeaTimer]
"ShowInfoBalloons"=dword:00000001

Charles.

Just a question: Are broken icons are affected in "Settings" and "Tools" pages ?

OK, I have also "broken icons" in the Scanner, ...when he find something :D:
See the screenshot:

Something more:
Tea Timer is working fine now,
but is giving a nice BSOD when you shut down the system!

So, I made this reg to make the OS wait a little more before closing,
and it seems to be better (only a few crash ;)):
Code:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control]
"WaitToKillServiceTimeout"="30000"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"HungAppTimeout"="10000"
"WaitToKillAppTimeout"="30000"

; Default value are 20000 (=20 s) for "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"
; & "WaitToKillAppTimeout"
; and 5000 (=5 s) for "HungAppTimeout".
If I close manually Tea Timer before to shut down, I don't have the BSOD.

Charles.

Thanks for the answer and explanation PepiMK :) .

The cosmetic of the icons doesn't make a problem.

But my try to tweak the registry to avoid BSOD's doesn't actually help,
I have to shut down TeaTimer manually and to wait a few seconds
to shut down safely the OS. :sad:

For the balloons, if I install the new 'TeaTimer.exe-1.6.2.23',
what will be his behavior with Windows 98?
Can I add the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Safer Networking Limited\SpybotSnD\TeaTimer" key with the "InfoBalloonMode" value?
What will be the difference between 1 and 2?

Thx in advance.
Charles. :)

I have a similar problem. This is running Spybot 1.6.0.31 under Windows 95. TeaTimer insists on running, even though I have gone into Tools -> Resident and unchecked the box Resident "TeaTimer". Tea Timer still runs every time I reboot; I have to go into Task Manager and zap the thing from there.

Also, did you have to make the systray icon animated? Most irritating.

Regards,
Martin

To get rid of TeaTimer I uninstalled Spybot completely, then reinstalled being careful to uncheck the TeaTimer box. Now, TeaTimer is not being started when I reboot.
