I just tried to run SSD and it said I had to down load the new updates but I had done that before I tried to start SSD. Retried same results.

martin:

To see if HyperThreading Technology is the cause of Spybot hanging please try running Spybot on one CPU as follows:
  • Open Spybot, then leave it alone
  • Open Task Manager, and go to the Processes tab
  • Right-click on SpybotSD.exe, and choose "Set Affinity..."
  • On the box that comes up, check/uncheck boxes so that ONLY "CPU 0" is checked.
  • Go back to the already-open Spybot, and run a scan.
Hopefully Spybot will complete without hanging or losing responsiveness.

Working ???

I just gotthe 02/03/06 updates. Now it runs but fiinishes in 6 seconds??? Is this right or do I still have a problem?

Hi Martin
What do you have SSD set to check ? set it to do a "spyware check only" please
Also Try unchecking the option md usa spybot fan mentioned then re-check it

???2

what does this mean? "Also Try unchecking the option md usa spybot fan mentioned then re-check it."

Open Spybot, then leave it alone
Open Task Manager, and go to the Processes tab
Right-click on SpybotSD.exe, and choose "Set Affinity..."
On the box that comes up, check/uncheck boxes so that Other than"CPU 0" is checked.
Close Spybot then re-open it
In Task mamager on the Processes tab
Right-click on SpybotSD.exe, and choose "Set Affinity..."
uncheck boxes so that ONLY "CPU 0" is checked.
Go back to the already-open Spybot, and run a scan

There are two ways to set the differant detections SpyBot checks for
One is open SpyBot click the Spybot icon over to the left now on the middle of that page near the top use the "file sets" dropdown to choose the only spyware" set
The other is > Mode > advanced > tools > settings > file sets, lower down uncheck usages tracks and see if that helps

Martin: Please see Lonny's post above first, my post is here to explain why you aren't seeing the 'File sets' option he mentioned.

Martin and Lonny: Unfortunately, the 'File sets' option isn't available on the Spybot 'Scan Results' page by default, since it is considered an 'Expert setting'. I personally believe this is exactly the opposite of reality, since this button makes these settings easier to perform, but what matters is how to make it appear.

To turn on the display of the 'Files sets' pull-down selection:
  • Click Mode
  • Advanced mode
  • Settings menu
  • Settings button
  • scroll down to Expert settings
  • finally check the 'Show expert buttons in results list' selection
Now return to the 'Spybot S&D Menu' and click the 'Search & Destroy' button, the 'Files sets' button should be visible.

All above done

when I run SSD it stops at a diffrent place 6689/34714 CoolWWWSearch. The line blinks on and off. Still have to use the task manager to get control.

Martin try This suggestion by Bitman
Please make a copy of the entire Spybot - Search & Destroy folder somewhere else, such as on the desktop or even on a flash drive or writeable CD if you have one. The folder is typically less then 25MB, including all sub-folders.

Do not move the folder, leave the original where it is, make certain it's a copy. Using Windows Explorer to right-click and drag the folder from C:\Program Files\ to the new location and drop it, then selecting 'Copy Here' is the easiest method.

Once the entire set of Spybot folders have copied, browse to that new folder, find SpybotSD.exe and double-click it to run the new copy of Spybot. Try a scan as you normally would and tell us what happens.

Please don't destroy the original Spybot - Search and Destroy folder if this works, since we may want you to get us some information about it. Again, I know it sounds strange, but this entire problem is both rare and strange, so it's worth a try based on what I've heard.

Thanks for taking time to try it and give us feedback.

WE find??

This is what I did. I made a copy of the SSD file to a CD. I then ran SSD from the CD. It worked and found a problem. The message was Win fire wall over ride. I unchecked the box and closed SSD. I Then tried to run from the main file. It did not workl ocked up at same place??? I Am glad to know that this was an oddball problem. Now do we have a fix??

Hi Martin

Im not sure yet why that would work,

Try this, uninstall SpyBot via addremove programs. restart your PC and delete SpyBots folder >
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy
Re-download and install again but this time change the install path to
C:\Program Files\Spybot
Keep us informed please

I forgot to metion that when I saved the SSD to the CD it stoped and gave me file stream loss warining but I went ahead and saved it. I dont know if this is important or not.

Weenner

Frist time I ran SSD it went through w\o any stops. It found a problem ( windows security center.firewalloverride) I let SSD fix it then restarted my machine. It would not start on the SSD icons. Wrong name on folder. Reset path and it started up. I checked for updates got what was there and immunized. Started SSD check ran all the way through w\ no problems. Appears to be working fine now. :bigthumb: :bigthumb:

Great Job
Thanks
