Quick question

Hi Daleyras,

Just one quick question before I get started on the things you suggested. How do I disable Norton. I've tried before, but can't figure it out.

Thanks,

Hi :)

Do you still need help with your machine?

If the instructions are unclear or something isn't working, please let me know before proceeding.

Windows shutting down unexpectedly

Hi Mr. Daleyras,

Sorry it has taken so long to post. Thank you for showing me how to disable Norton!

1. I was unable to use Flash_disinfector for my ext. HD. But I'm very certain it didn't have any viruses because I bought it and hooked it up right after reinstalling windows (my computer has the capability of restoring itself to factory settings). I also only used it for a short period of time after which I unplugged it from the computer. So I plugged the HD in and scanned it with Norton instead. It didn't find anything wrong. then I scanned the whole system, including the Ext. HD with ESET as you suggested. That didn't find anything at all. So I think I'm safe there.

2. I got the full version of Online-Armor firewall working today. But I don't know much about using the different features. How can I learn?

3. I'd like to find a way to send you my Norton history, so I could show you the time it said it deleted a dangerous virus, but that it may still need a professional to get rid of it. All I need to do is be able to open the .mcf files it exports. Is there a safe way to do that? I will keep trying to open it.

4. When I close all the programs it still says one program is running. What could be running?

5. Windows has shut down unexpectedly 3 times. Always shortly after installing a program. I think, winPatrol was one, ESET another and Online-Armor the latest. Could I not have enough memory? The error message said driver(s) were the problem.

6. I got the 2X1GB memory chips today. Should I go ahead and inert them?

Thank you for all your help. I know it seems as if my lists keep growing, but I think we've made some serious progress.

Take care,
Coneshell

Hi :)

Excellent news and you're welcome!

At this stage I honestly do not think your machine is infected and what Norton most likely flagged is a FP(false positive), if still concerned run the ESET online scan if you wish but the previous online scan only flagged one minor infection.

As for Online Armour all the relevant information is here.

Why unable to open a report from Norton I am not exactly sure as you should be able too and what you mentioned indicates a corrupt file association but this is as far as I aware not the case judging by the logs I asked for during the malware removal process. It is a distinct possibility some specific setting in Norton is not correct.

My best advice for this would be to try Norton Product Support as this would fall under their purview since you have purchased a subscription from them.
