Hi,

  • Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Copy-paste following contents into custom scan -area:
    netsvcs
    drivers32
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.*
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
    %systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\Results\Install|LastSuccessTime /rs
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
    • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
    • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them all in.

Thank you blade 81

Thanks for the reply. I got as far as running the scan with the copy/paste contents you described. In the midst of the scan, I got a pop up window asking to insert a disk into the hard drive. Everything stopped at that point.

Hard to get out of it at that point.

Bruce

In the midst of the scan, I got a pop up window asking to insert a disk into the hard drive.
Could you tell exact message contents? Please see if you're able to run OTL with those default settings.

Reply to Blade 81

The OTL scan stops at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\Current Version\Explorer\MountPoints2\{ee47b134-4 . . . . .

The dialogue box is OTL.exe

There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive\Device\Harddisk\DR4

Hope this helps. Need any more information?

Bruce

Please try to run OTL with minimal option selected. If it still fails try to run in safe mode (if possible).

Reply to blade 81

I did run OTL with minimal output selected.

Do not know how to run in safe mode. Instructions?

Thanks.

Bruce

I think I got it, Blade81

I ran the OTL scan in safe mode. I couldn't do "minimal output" in safe mode, because the copy/paste didn't transfer through the shut down and start up sequence.

I can't send the .txt files because they are too big. What now?

Bruce

Hi,

Let's see if we can clean system a bit first.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
  • Please post contents of that file in your next reply (if it's too long to fit please zip it and attach as file).

OTL files in .zip format

Here they are . . . I thought I sent this yesterday, but I guess I did something wrong. Thanks for your help and patience.

Bruce

Third Try

I am having trouble sending a reply to you with attachments. I don't know what I am doing wrong. But when I submit reply after putting on the attachments it doesn't seem to take . . . doesn't show up on the thread.

I will post this, then try again.

Bruce

Hi,

You sent those OTL looks earlier and I replied with the next instructions which contain MBAM run. Look at post #12, please.

Success

This removal tool seems to have worked ok. The obvious quirks that were bothering my computer seem to have disappeared.

A question now as you look it over and respond with whatever is next:

I now have Spyhunter, Spybot, Avast, OTL, and Malwarebytes installed. Which should I keep and which should I uninstall? Which should I use on a regular basis? Where does Windows Defender fit into the picture?

Any help on these mysteries will be appreciated.

Bruce

Hi,

Let's see your question about security programs a bit later. Please post fresh OTL.txt log. Shall see if there's still something that should be removed.
