suspected spyware, maybe malfunction from sd

I found the signs of spyware a day ago, the usual pop ups, random sign offs and the computer generally running very slowly. So I used spybot, it said that the user had stopped the search, fairly sure that I hadn't I tried again with excactly the same results. Also it won't allow me to download any updates as it just stops on one of the files. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Double click HijackThis.exe.
Just start the program.
Hit Scan.
When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Please mail that log to our detectives at detections(at)spybot.info.
