Thanks again. Unlimited popups are gone but it is so slow ..it seem some process is running in background. Another thing I noticed that I did a intelliscan with spyware doctor and I see a Trojan.PWS.Tanspy. Have cleaned multiple times in past but it was there this morning also after I posted the earlier posts.

Thanks a lot. I do not remember where it was. I just cleaned it through fix checked button on spyware doctor in the morning. I tried to look into the log of spyware doctor but could not find it. Other than being slow it crashed today to stop damage to hard drive automatically. I dont know whether its all related or independent issue. Nothing ever happened like this before. Is there anything else I should scan to find anything hidden or based on HJT log I am clean ? I will observe for sometime and hopefully nothing comes in any scan. Please let me know. If you think I am clean and unless until I come across something again I would not like to waste your time. After coming to this forum I have realized how much work it is on your voluteers part and it is such a priceless help. Please advise and once again Thank you very much for all your help and patience.
 
webcure and spyware logs

I ran web cure and found 3 infection. Ran spyware doctor and 1 threat with 4 infection. I was also able to find out the location of earlier trojan. I have put the log from 15th Oct. to 21st Oct. You can see the following on 20th Oct.

Ok let's see, it is possible that this is a false positive...

Go to Start >Run and type "Notepad" without the quotes
Copy the text from the quotebox to Notepad.
Go to the menu at the top of the Notepad file and Save as:
  • Name the file peek.bat
  • Save as Type: All files
  • Select the desktop icon on the left to save it on the desktop.
Double click on peek.bat and let it run.
When finished it will open a file in Notepad.
That file will be named startup.txt
Please post the contents of startup.txt into your next reply here.

OK that means that the key isn't there anymore. SpywareDoc propably removed it.

DrWeb findings were inside the System Restore, that is easily wiped...

So how is the computer now? Any issues?

Hello again Mr. JAK3,
I am not sure. There are no visible issues but laptop is considerably slow. Can feel and hear that a process is running in background and everything takes time. Can not locate it in taskmanager. At times hang also and need to be turned off and started. I ran the kaspersky online scanner again to see if it gives you any clue. It said 10 viruses and 31 infection.

Hi Again,
Removed that. Did go through the post and nothing jumps out. Cleaned the temp folders anyway. This slowness has come recently in last week or so. It was pretty good before that. Here is the HJT.
Thank you very much. Will watch for sometime otherwise go for the last option if it becomes unbearable. Just do not want to reformat after putting this much of effort in cleaning and taking so much time for you. Hopefully it stays within reasonable speed.

For the slowness, I recommend that you defrag your system.

You don't seem to have a third-party firewall installed. You must install one firewall.
It is possible that you're using the Windows XP firewall. That is of course better than nothing but I recommend that you install a more advanced firewall that gives more protection. Windows firewall doesn't eg protect your computer from inbound threats. This means that any malware on your computer is free to "phone home" for more instructions. Remember to use only one firewall at the same time. I'll give you a few alternatives if you want to install a third-party firewall:

You can remove the tools we used.

Then you should update your Java to the latest version (6u3)
  • [*]Start
    [*]Control Panel
    [*]Add/Remove Programs
  • Delete the old Java,
    Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u3.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications."
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement."
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Install it
Now you can make your hidden files hidden again.
  • Go to My Computer
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
  • Click the View tab.
  • Checkmark the "Display the contents of system folders"
  • Under the Hidden files and folders select "Show hidden files and folders"
  • Check "Hide protected operating system files"
  • Click Apply and then the OK and close My Computer.

Hi Mr. Jak3,

I had remove the firewall recently while trying to clean the virus. I have downloaded comodo now. I tried defragmanting and laptop does not need defrag.
I went through all the steps instructed by you and download everything as instructed. Can all those programs and my Avast anti virus run together. I also have spyware doctor which is running.

You're very welcome, nice that we were able to help.

You can use antispyware programs for scanning but it is propably best to only keep one realtime protection enabled so that you don't have 5 different antispyware programs running all the time. They'll work with AVAST, remember to always use a firewall and antivirus.
